Default Changing the boot and I'm 2nd guessing myself

2003 Turbo - still 4WD - had a cracked outside boot on my CV slinging grease everywhere.

Got the axle out - got the boot off - see where there is a circlip holding the cv joint to the axle - I'm pressing this together first, right? then the cv joint will come off the end? Maybe just a little stubborn?

If its like my 964 yes take the circlip off. It took me 2 weeks of persuasion to get my CV to finally break loose and come off the shaft. Be sure to clean the CV up real good to be sure there is no sand in there before you repack it.

It probably would be easier to use a hydraulic press to safely remove it without damaging the axle.

Counter intuitive - but you actually spread the circlip.

You pull the CV outer ring out and twist sideways and it comes apart so that just the center portion is left on the axle. Then remove the clip and press the center portion off. You do not want to be pressing on the outer ring of the CV it will destroy it. When you take it apart mark it so it goes back together in the same orientation.

didn't damage anything using a puller. I was pushing against a socket.
