Default Front License Plate Fitting

Here in Texas we are required to run a front plate. I am going to put on an OEM in the middle since I have a slight crack in my bumper, which can be seen in the pic. the crack is just adjacent to the hole. One reason I want to do this is to hide said crack. Now, you put in a license plate spacers into each hole, and a screw goes though them. It looks like the screws do not actually screw into anything, but expands the male piece of the spacers to prevent if from slipping out. Looking at the crack, do you think there is any reason this would not hold? Is my thinking correct on the purpose of the screw, besides holding the plate? The other option is to come at it from behind with the traditional nut/washer/bolt combo, but probably requires the bumper removed, or at least removing the grill.

Spacer, part 996-701-801-00 with the male piece

My car, the crack is on the right side looking at the picture. I have a partially broken spacer on the other side, it looks like it will be secure but hopefully someone can confirm before I purchases something that won't work.

Doesn’t look expensive, give it a try.

I used a license mount that attaches to the tow hook receptacle, I think it may cover your bumper cover crack. It was $44 on eBay...

Unfortunately, the crack is on the other side, otherwise I would go that route.

If front plates were required in Georgia I'd go with the factory provided holes just to keep the front bumper look symmetric.

There is a right and left piece that follows the contour of the bumper, then the actual plate holder itself. I might have the whole setup if you need it.

thanks. I doubt I’ll need them since I ordered the pieces yesterday so well see. But the left and right piece I don’t understand, do you have the part number? Or picture?

Hmm, I got the two spacers but the third was not a number that showed up. The bracket I got was 996-701-107-00

Yep I got that lats one wrong on the bracket and corrected the number. The spacers are left/right, I ordered two of the same one once only to discover they were directional.

Whew, I was wondering if I got the wrong one or if there was another bracket I should have got instead. Thank you.

Law enforcement using laser many times sit on the side of the road resting the laser gun on the window opening. A plate on the tow hook angled to the right presents for a very nice reflector for the laser energy to bounce off of right back to the laser receiver. The more perpendicular the plate is to the laser gun the easier it is for the laser system. The same physics apply to radar energy.
