Default Frunk plastic beauty covers screws

when i took the frunk apart the two plastic cover on each side have a screw which seem to go into a rubber grommet. the grommet completely deteriorated so i was wondering if anyone mounted this differently?

maybe i should put a rivnut in the hole instead???

I replaced one of mine a while ago. Used the factory part and put a little anti-seize on the threads.

Bought new ones, cheap fix. Feels a bit odd when tightening, there is no hard landing to signal you are done.

The plug goes into the shock tower then the screw just snugs the panel up. I ditched them a while ago just cause they look and work dumb. Replaced with generic black plastic panel clips. They fit the hole perfect and are just push so you can leave them in and just pop the panel out when needed. They fit very snug too. I'll have to get a pic.

Instead of a screw there was a gentleman selling a knurled thumb screw kit...Very well made and cheap.. I don't know if he still in business but his email was : johnnyflagg@gmail.com

Also the grommet is on this parts cat: Item# 13 # 999-500-092-00

The nut is called a well nut. They are available at most all nut and bolt suppliers for under a buck to just over, SAE, USS or metric.

If you don’t know the Autoatlanta site, you should. All these assembly breakdown schematics are there to find such obscure parts.
