Default I know it’s not a Mercedes forum, but had to show off my other love...

The only car that is sexier than my ‘02 Porsche 996 Turbo is my ‘02 Mercedes R129 SL500 Silver Arrow Edition with panoramic rooftop. Took me literally years to find these BBS AMG wheels (Holy Grails in the Mercedes world and mint) and not have to spend $4000/$5000. Anyway, new wheels (finally), new headlight lenses, tires, balancing/alignment, and a few other things; car is just perfect in every way now and complete! Always have a hard time deciding, which car to take out for a spin...when the R8 eventually joins the party, it’ll be even harder! Anyway, just thought I’d share and sorry for the poor photos.

😀👍👌

I've never been particularly interested in Mercedes, but I have always found the SLs from that era to be an incredibly good looking car. And although I'm not "into" Mercedes, I've always wanted a W124.

Man I love the R129. I downsized and no longer have the garage space, but if I did, I would have an R129 in addition to the 996T.

Did you see this one on BAT: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...ZEcgLqsVvGiMNg

the W124s are great. I have a 1990 300e, love how that thing rides.
I really want the porsche made 500e though! too expensive for my taste currently.

that was the last great year of the MBs... my best friend's parents had a R129 which was sunk in a flood during a hurricane ~2007... insurance paid it out and they couldn't find another low mileage example so they stepped it up to an R230... they still have the R230 now, it's their daily driver with over 100k miles but it did not hold up well at all... every piece of plastic has cracked, the glue on the panel clips are are dried out and it had loads of issues with the ABC system and fuel cells... the motor itself has been solid thus far though... when we were on lockdown for covid, i installed a new radio in the R230 for them...

You are very welcome; I’m glad Porsche owners can appreciate the other German on the block.

Yes, these R129’s are my favorite benzes of all time! Has to have the AMG package though, at least for me.

Incredibly easy to maintain and keep healthy/on the road. Parts can be purchased everywhere pretty inexpensively. The same does not apply to the R129 SL600 though. Those V12’s can be costly. Yes, I’ve been following all the R129 BAT auctions. Always want to be in the know about the current value of my cars.

Those old 300e can go forever. Great cars!

I couldn’t have said it better; the last solid Mercedes that was so well built, and that ages so well, the interior as well as exterior still looks pretty much brand new. And we’re talking about a 20-year-old car. BMW’s from this era don’t really age well either, which is a shame because those old M3’s and M5’s are some of the funnest cars ever built.

That’s a fun car too, especially the AMG version and the best thing is, it can be had for unbelievable money now; older models at least. 😀👍

Well, seeing as though we are showing off our MBs... It will go into serious duty once I kill my Suburban... Right now, it does light back up car duties. Nice enough, under powered and tank like.

Very nice car! I will be looking in to the R series as a family car myself when that time comes.
