Default 996 Tequipment Roll Bar

Thinking about finding/buying a Porsche Tequipment stainless roll bar (without the crossbar) for my 02 Turbo. Does anyone have one in their car? Can you move your seat completely back? I am 6' tall and like my seat as far back as it will go. I know there are seat placement/ reclining issues with the crossbar equipped roll bar, but what about the roll bar without the crossbar? Any help is appreciated.

What's your goal for the bar? That bar, without the cross bar is useless for anything but looks.

Not true, they also do a good job of increasing cabin noise

I like the look of the roll bar. But, I would like to try autocross this summer and I know this roll bar is useless other than basic safety. I don't want to do any permanent modifications because the car only has 21k miles and is all stock. I figure if I like autocross i'll sell the turbo and buy a newer GT3.

I don't think you need the safety of a roll bar for autocross.

I'm sure you don't, but I just like the look.

I have one in my car with the cross bar. The seat it self goes back all the way. When I recline the seat it touches the top of bar a little. Save the picture and zoom in on it.

The Tequipment bar is nice harness bar but useless otherwise. The Tequipment bar without the cross brace is beyond useless since it doesn't provide any protection or ability to use harnesses and basically says that the owner is completely clueless for putting that in the car.

I have one in my car. It did improve the rigidity of the car a little. Seat goes all the way back. To each his own.

Not everyone is at the track like you. Some people do it for the look like me. I know all about roll bars and cages, raced many years ago at the drag strip. Like Immelman said to each his own. Happy Thanksgiving.

I don't think the bar is really adding any safety, particularly without the cross brace, proper seats and harnesses. If you're going it for the look, well, that's subjective and if you like it, go for it.

If people like the look that’s what matters of course. I was just referring to it from a functionality standpoint so maybe that came out wrong, my apologies. I had one of these bars years ago and swapped it for the cross brace version which I used for many years. Bottom line, as you know any bar that attaches with the seatbelt bolts on a vertical plane can not physically provide any type of meaningful rollover protection. The open bar is so soft without the cross brace that you can flex the legs by hand so any added rigidity or lack there of is obvious. The biggest problem I see with the non-cross bar Panamera Teq bar is the fact the it still allows people / kids to sit in the back seat which effectively turns the rear seat area if occupied into a death trap in a wreck.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

That does not sound pleasant.
