I'll take the 996TT. I had a 996 C2 Cab 6 speed that I drove for 7 wonderful years. The whole time the most expensive and top of the line Porsches were the TT's. I thought it would have been totally awesome to own one but they were financially far out of reach, or better stated, they cost more than I would feel comfortable spending on a car. That, and the top down experience was something I'd gotten used to with my C2 and our Boxster that we still have, some 20+ years later. So 2008 came around, and the market and economy tanked. In '09 I found a few Turbo Cabs that were in the realm of what I'd spend, plus I had about $40k from proceeds of my C2 and a motorcycle that I'd sold. So, I spent about a year looking for the perfect to me '6TT Cab. There were not a lot for sale at any one time, only a handful across the country. I found about 6 that I'd buy and had walk around inspections and PPI's done and I eliminated all but one for various reasons from under chassis corrosion, sun damaged headlights, dirty and interior not kept up, minor dings and scrapes, etc. One seller in Las Vegas was so desperate to sell, he offered to fly to Salt Lake City in his plane, pick my wife and I up, put us up in a nice hotel, fly us home if I did not buy his '05TT "S" Cab. A PPI revealed several minor issues and it did not reflect care worthy of such an expensive car. I passed on his offer. You must remember during '09 and the first of '10, everyone was financially spooked and getting rid of depreciating assets. I was lucky to find the car I still have and with everything I put into the search, I'm still tickled with my purchase. I've no desire to have anything newer, although a '19 Speedster may be fun, but not for the over $400K they are bringing.

992 base holds almost no appeal to me...
And I defintely love the 996 Turbo platform, seeing as i have two of them. But, no desire for some show pony nearly zero mile 2005 S... It kind of defeats the amazing bang-for-the-buck ethos of the 996 TT.
For the above hypothetical $125K, neither of those choices. I'll take a mid-mile 991.1 Turbo S. Oh wait, I did!

The difference is that the 992 is just another new car. A nice one, sure, but they all start out as low mileage. A 5k mile 996TTS coupe is a rare bird that should be a garage queen. Take it out for a spin a few times a year, but limited to maybe 200 or 300 miles per year. I give autobonrun a hard time for putting miles on his, and he’ll even autocross it. But if it only had 5k miles on it, I suspect he might reconsider. Of course, he can always chime in . . .
That’s his gorgeous ‘05 S coupe (one of like 184 in existence) in seal over natural tan on the right, and my ratted out red one on the left (with my old wheels) at an autocross a few years ago. He’s the skinny one standing closer to my car for some reason.

I think it would be less meaningful because naturally there would be many more casual first-time Porsche buyers who have no idea what a Mezger engine is, only a vague notion of the meaning of the Turbo badge, and limited appreciation for a smaller car, simpler chassis, more analog driving experience.
