Default Valuation Advice

Regular on the 996 and 997 forums but not too knowledgeable about 996 tt market.

Looking for some valuation help from the collective. Have a lead on a 2004 tt cab 6 speed with X50 package, approximately 30k miles. Black over Graphite Grey full leather. Basically a one owner car (current owner bought it from his boss very early in the car’s life). Vinanalytics doesn’t show the X50 on the build sheet but owner knows for a fact car has the X50 so I’m assuming it was added at the dealership at delivery. Coolant line issue hasn’t been addressed and all service records are available.


What are your thoughts on Fair Market Value?

+1, maybe even a bit more depending on where and how it's sold. Does the frunk sticker show X50?

On another note, not to derail topic/focus, but interesting to hear of another X50 that does not always present itself as one (reference https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...911-turbo-135/).

Thanks for the quick response. Car has spent its life in Chicago area but never driven during winter. It would be a private sale vs BaT or other auction site.

I agree with the 60-65k estimate. This car has been offered to me at the “friend price” of 60k. I already own 2 911 4s models and as much as i want a tt, not sure i want to buy it just to flip out of it. Not much margin after paying sales tax etc.

Sounds nice. Can't really add the X50 later if it includes the GT3 oil pump so I'd make sure it is an optioned car.

Yeah IMHO, "close call". RE the tax, you could decide not to sign your portion of the title (reserve for whom you sell it to) and never register it thus not incurring the sales tax. This is if you are just going to flip it. If you want to "own it" and run it for a bit I'd ensure frunk sticker has X50 on it and tires and other things are in good condition. You could run it for a season then get out. But yeah, probably not a ton of profit in it. However, if you could hold it, these X50's seem to command a premium.

OR

Take your friend out for drinks, play hardball, and offer $50k. :-)

If I owned that car, I would ask $70k. If X50 isn't on the original window sticker, certificate of authenticity or build sheet ther is no way you are going to get someone to pay X50 prices for it. Buying it for $60 seems very fair if you are going to keep it, if you plan to flip it the margins seem too small to take the risk at least for me. At around $50k I would get tempted to flip. Personally, I would sell both of the 4S's and buy the TT and keep it.

Ive asked him to take a photo of the option sticker in the frunk or the original window sticker to resolve the X50 question. Will update with more info. He’s owned the car for 15 years so I assume he knows what he has.

There was no dealer X50 option. The X50 factory option was just that; a factory option.

why would you keep 2 4s and not keep the turbo. Especially since one the 4s has the dreaded M96 faulty motor. 4S values have risen more than turbo (percentage wise) so it would make much better sense to cash in on m96 and switch out to turbo and then see more appreciation while getting a much better car. And more interesting variety 997 4s and 996turbo that compliment each other and are different.

At an eyeball, sticker price of 130k doesn't sound inclusive of X50.

I've put 35,000 miles on my 996 4s and its a great car, albeit with an engine that can keep you up at night if you let it bother you, I don't. My 997.2 4s has an FSI 4.0 Stage II engine and delivers a ride that it hard to explain without experiencing it for yourself. It actually makes going back and forth with the 996 even more enjoyable as their vastly different power and handling characteristics, combined with 6 speed vs PDK, really makes them each feel unique. Having never driven or ridden in a 996 tt I look forward to seeing just how different it feels, and just how fast it is.

If I do acquire the turbo I would most likely give the 996 to my daughter and son-in-law.....they own a DeLorean but have both driven the 996 and understand how to enjoy it.
