Default Cross post from 911, but I'm a 996 Turbo guy that happened upon a '73...

Long story short, this is a "barn find" restoration that was just completed as of April 2023. Found it in my neighbor's yard in June of 2020 in pretty rough shape, but in the end, we saved one. Enjoy the pics.

Beautiful! Is that the original color combination?

No, the original was silver on black. Against the recommendation of the restoration shop, it was re-colored Signal Yellow on Cork.

I never knew signal on cork was my new favorite color combo until now. It works so well in ways that I don't think would work on a modern 911

beautiful and a great save. please detail how it was found on your neighbor's yard? did he know about it? was it hard to get title? did the engine turn? did you send engine out? did you do the engine out etc? did you use refabricated parts such as restoration design?

Awesome! Signal Yellow 72 is my preferred spec, so good to see you saved one!

Nice find and nice save! I don't blame you for deviating from the original factory spec, that combo is great!

So the story starts in the spring of 2020 when there was a fire that broke out on an adjacent mountain side to our neighborhood. I went up to our recently widowed neighbor to ensure she knew of a potential evacuation and to get a better look at the flames. While on her property, I spotted a tarp with the silhouette of what I gathered to be an old fiat. Asking "Jennifer" what was under the tarp, she informed that it was an "old 911" that her husband had wanted to restore. I asked to take a look, and not really knowing what I was looking at, but realizing that it might be worth saving, I offered to purchase it. A week later, my buddy and I decided to jointly fund the restoration and had it towed to a shop and the resto began. There were no title issues as she had it in hand and informed me that her husband had purchased it a couple decades prior and also said it had been raced up Pike's Peak at some point. It was an engine out, very little expense spared restoration. Bob at Storz Garage let us know that the motor was in great shape so little was needed to bring it back to life. The body had almost no rust and all body and paint work was done with Dave at Apex who did an incredible job refinishing what he could and installing new exterior trim and refurbished gauges. Autoweave handled the gutted interior with just about everything except the control touch points being new; headliner, seat vinyl, carpets, etc. In the end, I think our vision came to fruition and while we're not sure what we'll ultimately do with the car, it will be driven and enjoyed in the interim.
