MOST Amp malfunction?
Hi Guys,
This error started as intermittent but is now happening all the time. The radio ***** and functions work properly but there is no sound. The battery in the car is relatively new. Batteries in the key fobs are also new. The problem was happening before and after the battery change(s).
The car is MY 2003. PCM2 option code 665 with Nav module.
I tried pulling the amp and cleaning connections but everything looks very clean. Thanks for any suggestions.

I went through almost all the fuses in the box, but they all seem ok. If it was a fuse, I would expect the problem to happen 100% of the time. I'll look for instructions to pull the head unit and check the connections. I don't think it's ever been apart, and nobody has been in there messing with it so I don't think anything was bent. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

If memory serves me correctly, there might be a fuse on the app itself. Maybe it’s corroded?

Amp
1. Large, multi pin connection.
2. Connector with two fiber cables. With ignition on, one of the cables is illuminated red.
3. Small connector with 3 wires.
The amp and trunk area are remarkably clean. Almost no dust, corrosion, moisture.

The amp is likely toast. Post a picture of it / model number and I can give you your options based on what I went through with mine in 2 different 996’s. ( 04 996 c2 w/ most non Bose and 03 996 tt with Bose and most and subs There is a flaw in most of the Becker amps and the internal soldering goes bad amongst other gremlins. You can get it repaired in Europe or even try Becker in the us ( not terribly helpful / hey buy a refurb from me instead attitude). I wound up sourcing Amos hunting eBay and various dismantles and used parts folks online. Thx - Scrh1

It looks like any of the repair services are about 400$ and require send off to Europe ( some us based as well ). Your best bet may be eBay. They seen to be going for around 400$ so it’s a wash on the send off and repair. The only thing is that a used one will exhibit the same issue in some time. Here’s a thread about what happens to them …..

dosregard the car type as these Bose amps cross multiple brands of vehicles. The problem and the fix are the same. I am not a good solderer hence I opted for a replacement from la dismantlers that is still working fine 2 years on. If you are patient you can find one for a deal but will require a search.
This is us based and says they repair. I would call though to verify.

Anyone near you that has similar system that would let you swap amps to see if that is the issue 100%. It could be head unit and amp as well so just wanting to help, you save a little time and headache.

Can be both symptoms, totally dead ( no sound) but head unit is alive. Or head unit is alive all the time and sometimes no sound as if on mute. Have 3 cars on my street. 2 failed intermittent and mine had no sound

OK. Thanks. The head unit works perfectly all the time. When the problem shows itself, it's just now sound, with the amp malfunction message displayed.
