Another idea is to buy a 997 Turbo transmission which is stronger, but not as strong as the upgraded 996 trans with the cup parts.

To me, one of the huge advantages of doing the Oem Porsche gt2 conversion is being able to get the parts from multiple places.

With the BBi conversion you can only get it from them, and it's out of stock more than in stock

Yes, but the age old discussion on drilling the case to accept the gt2 slave always comes up.

I drilled my case for the all OEM GT2 clutch parts and it is no big deal at all. It's thick metal through that section so no issues.

Mine was drilled when I sent it to Roger at CMS. He didn't make any comment about it. I think the problem is that some people can't tap holes straight so the mounting holes can be rather sloppy.

I believe Powderhound stated that is a weaker transmission.

I just recently sold one of my 996GT2 gearboxes.

I will be selling another Chris Cervelli built low time OEM 996GT2 gearbox this fall. It has 997GT2 mainshaft and 1-4 gears. 5th and 6th are OEM 996GT2. LSD is a Guard billet chromoly GT2 Pro. 3/4 shift fork is billet steel OEM 996Cup. Gearbox will be sold inspected by Chris Cervelli and in perfect condition. $27k

I can include a brand new set of OEM 996Cup shift cables for another $1500.

If anyone is interested shoot me a message. This will go quick. The last one did as I never even had a chance to advertise it before it sold.

Where is that? I don't think that is true stock for stock. The issue with the 997 AWD box is that it won't take the upgraded GT2 or cup gears, whichever it is. But stock for stock it is stronger.

I'm lucky enough to have Cervelli and G Box local to me. So I'd just take my transmission to either of them to have them machine it for the GT2 conversion, if I ever go that way.

"It works but without a doubt it's absolutely a downgrade on all fronts... I would unequivocally make the insurance company remove it and put in a proper gearbox."

13th post but reading further it may be a comment about upgrade possibility being lacking.

He only says that because you can't spend 20k on upgrading it. Stock for stock the 997 transmission is stronger and might be a sensible move if you are in that 800hp range or so. The 3rd gear on the 996 strips out about there.

997TT gearbox is has shorter gearing that a 996TT gearbox. This is only made worse by the 996TT smaller diameter wheels. The 996TT gearing is borderline short as is and definitely too short on a modded car which is why the 997GT2 taller 1-3 is such a popular upgrade. The 997TT gearbox will make this even worse. Where did you get the part about spending $20k to upgrade it?? Lol. You can pretty much get a whole gearbox for that amount.

A bit of an exaggeration but not by too much. The 997 box IS quite strong though. I know the gearing is shorter but with the 19s and the same tires it would work fine. I had been thinking that might be a decent move if the 996 upgrade is so pricey.
