My car is a k16. Bone stock. I wanted to free up the exhaust portion since I do not get smog tested in my state. I'd love to hear the turbo spool sound, but I could care less to ever hear drone. It hurts my head. So maybe the Kline is the best bet with test pipes/ or a cat of some sorts.

The car made ALL the power on the dyno with the Europipe. Even the tuner remarked that the lack of sound made him think it wasn't making the power it was, until he looked at the results.
Europipe is beautifully constructed, so not a surprise there.

Add in a quarter wave resonator and you're about as good as you can get.
Mine is a 3", I have not heard a 2.5 quiet.

The 2.5 is a completely different world from the 3", but still offers great sound.

Having over the years of my ownership tried six different aftermarket exhausts for my K24 equipped car, I can say with absolute certainty that they all, in their original condition, have annoying resonance and/or drone at certain RPM ranges. This past weekend I re-installed my factory X50 exhaust and plan on keeping it on the car. The car sounded so much better inside the cabin that it made me wonder why it had taken me so long to mount it back on the car.

As a side note, while doing the R&R of the exhausts, I noticed the one of the small bolts that secure the heat shield to the side small turbo oil reservoir had backed out and was missing. The part number for that small bolt is PAF008124 - I've got one on order.

For the X50, I prefer the Europipe Stage 2 Quiet (not manufactured anymore), next would be the the current Europipe with 100 Cell cats.
If one wants a quiet, slightly louder than stock exhaust it's the Milltek system.
One other exhaust to consider if one wants a higher pitch, is the RUF exhaust. Hard to find and Expensive new.....

It does seem to me (based on videos) that the X50 factory exhaust sounds better than the K16 stock exhaust.

I went through this on my first turbo ( 6MT ) and settled on the Kline stainless system with 100 cell hjs cats. No drone and sounded amazing in the car when it had k16’s then k16/24 hybrids. I currently have the europipe on my x50 tip cab and no drone. I like the Europe better as the turbo spool sound is divine

Isn't that RUF exhaust just a modified stocker?

Surely you could or do provide a service to do this for a reasonable price to mimic the RUF exhaust? Put on high flow cats or de-cat pipes

They are two different part numbers.

I had the RUF exhaust for many years. It had a very high pitched sounds almost like a jet aircraft taking off, a very unique sound. I only had a small amount of drone in the typical 2000-3000 range, about the same as a stock exhaust which is very little but it was there. I really like the RUF exhaust and it flowed well at 550whp. I have tried just about every aftermarket exhaust out there including Europipe, Speedtech, and Kline. They all had drone to some extent or other, the Europipe "Loud" on a K24 car was pretty significant. The "Quiet" was much much better and is a very nice OEM type exhaust with excellent cats, the only drawback is the 55 lb weight. The Kline Inconel 70mm exhaust with large 130mm Motorsport Emitec cats had the least amount of drone, comparable to the RUF exhaust. The Kline Inconel was nice but pricey.

With that said, the only exhaust that can truly have "zero" drone/resonance is one that is properly designed with correctly sized 1/4 resonator tubes. The key work is "correctly" sized. I have had numerous custom exhausts even 18" long 3.5" diameter straight pipes and they have all had 1/4 wave resonators and have had what I consider "zero" drone. This is no voodoo magic, it's a science based approach used to negate resonance/drone very much like a noise cancelling headset. I just plain works amazingly well and used by many OEMs in various applications. I would not run an exhaust without 1/4 wave resonators on this platform as my ears are super sensitive to drone.

I've got both in my garage and have borescoped them. Can confirm they are indeed different. Subjectively the difference isn't much but slight volume increase on the X50/GT2 exhaust.

Makes sense, bigger turbos need more flow.

I wouldn't spend any real money to buy a stock X50 exhaust. The performance gains are minimal, at best.

Maybe punch the cats out, perhaps some gains there. Should be quiet too.
