Default NO oil Pressure

My friend has a 2001 TT and it was parked outside for a heavy rain/downpour, anyway when the engine is started the oil pressue gauge goes to about 1/2 bar then back to zero also the red warning light comes on and stays on it says lo oil pressure , we have only started the car a few times for not more than 20 seconds it doesnt sound like any knocking however the owner says that he thinks it noisier, than before however he also says that the light is making him think that , previous the car ran beautifully and was only moved outside for garage work.............any thoughts. is it possible that a connector could have gotten wet and be causing this problem, next step is the flatbed to the dealer

Most likely the oil pressure sensor or connector which is located on the oil filter console..

Mine began working intermittently last fall - all the warning lights, etc.. It was the sensor as Kevin mentioned...I am told it's a common problem. Very concerning when it happens, but mine kept popping back up quickly and stayed high, then would drop for a few seconds and run correct again for a while. It was kind of easy to tell the gauge was getting an intermittent signal.

Here we spent some time removing the Check valve on the bottom of the oil tank, per TBO 1728, anyway when it was removed the valve was found to be frozen in the closed position so as to cut off the flow of oil and thus no oil could flow to the oil pump , a new part is on order the old check valve did not have the blue paint dot that the TBO called out, updated will follow, the part should be in next week, also we will be changing the oil and filter

That's not good.. I'd be standing right there when the oil filter comes out.. Spend some time sifting thru the pleats of the filter.

I'd run an oil analysis.
