Dealer Appraisal Is Ugly!
I asked my dealer in Connecticut to appraise my car: '04 TT Cab with 20k miles. Car is in great condition and looks brand new. He came back with $55k! I like the 997s, but why in the world would I give him my car PLUS another $70k for a new 997. No thanks!!
I'd much rather spend a few thousand for a tune, diverters and intake to get me to the same 480 hp as the 997s. Am I missing something?

Bingo!.......................
I came to the same conclusion 2 years ago when the 997TT debuted. Since then I've added a Europipe S2-Q, and GIAC flash and have all the power and torque I want. And it didn't cost me anywhere near $70K. I don't see trading or selling my 996TT for a long time.
Cheers,

No, you're not missing anything.
Your dealer doesn't want your car nor does anyone else they know of.
They are probably using Galves pricing book?

Keep your car!!! At these prices the 996TT is perhaps one the best car values around...as a DD, track or from any other perspective. Throw in some suspension, an HP upgrade, a nice sounding exhaust and few other vehicles come close. Literally.

Nothing wrong with your car, your logic, or your common sense.....your car looks great...certainly looks as good as another $70K would look on a newer 997. Do the flash, the DV's, wastegate and a few other mods....you'll get just as much pleasure out of the new increased performance as you would out of a newer car.

Personally, I don't see good reason to trade "up" to a 997tt at almost any cost. I don't think many 996tt owners would. All you would do is start the same depreciation cycle over from the top. Our cars have a lot of miles built into them, and I hope to use up every one. AS

You got a killer car, keep it. You want 480hp do the mods mentioned. Besides for under $70k you can get a lot of hp. Our 996's look a hell'va lot better than the 997. Great color!!!!

As a 997 S owner, I agree with your friends I like the 997 body, but the 996 Turbo is a stunner....Keep the car and add a few upgrades. You've already (unfortunately) taken the depreciation hit, so at this point, personalize it a tad more and enjoy !

Last year I sold an 04 cab to a dealer. perfect car in every way. they gave me 75 on trade. a year later they finally sold the car for low 70's. the market is terrible right now and for some reason the market is very soft for 996 tt cabs. given market conditions i would say your dealer is not far off. having said all that, keep it. it is gorgeous.

Overproduction.
Dr. W's goal of 100K cars/year (no matter what) has turned cars such as these into Porsche commodities. It's worse for the 98x/99x NA cars, but same underlying reason.
In comparison to other cars in this category, they are overproduced, Porsche doesn't say 'no' to anyone with a checkbook.
The only time they limit or allocate is when they have produced too many and/or the model simply isn't selling (i.e. Targa 4S....some of the top dealers are only getting one in 2009)
