Default What is it worth?

Hi,

I have a 2001 Turbo, 39,900 miles, lapis blue, graphite grey, deviating stitching $10k in factory leather, carbon steering wheel, shifter and brake handle (MSRP was $138K or so), Ruf RTurbo motor (done by Ruf, 520 hp), tech Art coilover and adj sway bars, clear side markers, ruf pedals, reus sst stereo.

I am the original owner and @ 36k miles I put in new clutch, major service tune up, painted front bumper and hood for rock chips, new rotors and pads all around etc. Car has been on the track 1 day, a few years back. No accidents, never smoked in etc.. S. Calif car.

What do you think it is worth?

Thanks,

JCM

I would say mid to high 40's, though I am not certain how much the Ruf motor work will really increase the value...

I would have to agree with D_Nyholm. I have been looking for a few months now and prices have dropped to around the low $40s for many of the 996tt's. Not sure how much the mod would add...

I think the biggest factor for price of these cars is condition. A super clean car with no chips, scratches, dents, dings, etc. and has a perfect interior without the carbon fiber fading, etc. would bring more. 1 owner certainlly helps and it has low miles. Repainted front end will be good as long as the paint matches perfectly and has no overspray, etc.

Condition seems to be the major factor IMHO... That is my $0.02 worth.

Thanks for the feedback - the mods cost around $42,000 in total. Car is in excellent condition. In looking at all the usual places, auto trader, cars .com, etc., other than Ebay, I am not finding too many cars with this kind of milage and mods in the low $40k range - seems most are asking much more. I am sure in this market if you are a forced seller you would have to take less.

Where are you guys seeing these cars for low to mid $40K range?

Thx,

JCM

I just picked my 2002 996tt with 37k miles on it up off Autotrader for $42k. No mods... Not sure about the market for a modified 996tt. I was only looking for a stock one... There are around 70 or so 996tt's on Autotrader in the $40k-$50k range...

Wow great deal you got - must love the car and for that price a great buy. I expanded by search on Autotrader to "any" distance from me (s. Calif) and left off the 45,000 mile max and I see 174 cars and many in the price range you both pointed to. Market is certainly great for buyers!

Thx for the feedback.

Yep, great time to buy one! I have been drooling over them for a while... I just gave mine its first bath today and it looks awesome! Took the family out for a drive afterward and I LOVE this car!!!

I would imagine that, much like a track car, mod $$ are usually recovered at around 30-35%, so take the 'going rate' for a 996TT + 35% of your mods and start there perhaps?

I would imagine a 'proper' RUF (i.e. RUF VIN#) would certainly command more of a premium, to the right buyer of course.

Go to your local P car dealer and ask for how much they would be writting a check right now. No new car purchase just straight out selling. Don't settle for ball park or "we are not buying", visit the next place until you get a firm bid. Add ~5k to that number and you have a realistic retail price point.

Mods add zero to resale value, probably lessen it if anything. A lot of OEM options also add zero btw.
As is 40k, return it to stock and sell off the parts to recoupe some cash is another option. GL either way.

If this is a Ruf conversion that would add value IMO. Ruf is different from the average "tuner" IMO. So maybe add another $10K for the Ruf name.

I agree with ltc, pole and TT Gasman's comments....

Mods add something, to the right buyer and marketed properly. 30% or 1/3 return is prolly a good number. When there is a 'package' from a known tuner, the mods hold more value (ie like a Dinan S2, s3 in BMW-speak)

Do realize that you will NOT see deals advertised in the mid 40s... indeed, in a dropping market, it is hard to find good references. And nobody posts what they just sold the car for... buyers will say what they paid, though.

Ruf r Turbo, I didn't see that, in that case it will have a higher than average value.
