996TT on Sixspeed for $35k
I've been contemplating this one. Does anyone have any idea of what the conversion back to all wheel drive might cost?

Didn't read the posts at the location you provided but my impression is the majority of turbos converters to rear wheel only drive are done so to improve their on track behavior.
I'd give the car a miss based on my first impression.
Sincerely,
Macster.

a better question is why would you want to, but I will leave that be. The seller has almost 4,000 posts and a positive rep of 175. I would not hesitate to think the car was just as described. For that price even if it costs 10,000 to replace the awd system the car is a steal. There are LOTS of the necessary parts floating around Texas and you can probably post a WTB for them and get the pricing. I would be shocked if it was more then 1k for all including labor to reinstall. If you are looking for an unmolested 996tt, tho this is not it. Remember this is a tuned car with high HP and will require lots of TLC.
If you wait till spring to take it back to AWD i will have a complete set parts off of mine for sale.

It looks like you can work a deal with the guy to buy it with AWD re-installed. He sounds like a motivated seller, and the car looks nice from the pictures. If I were in the market for a turbo, this would be hard to pass up, as long as the PPI results were acceptable.

He is not behind the market -- while the TT is not bringing big numbers, mid thirties seems closer to the exception then the norm for that year and mileage. The average asking price according to Autotrader for that year and mileage is 49k with the low at 35k. (based on 38 cars) If he's will to re-connect the front drive, it's a steal.
I've never seen people who get better deals on any car than the people on Rennlist...

Ask about the front diff. Even if he includes it for free, it can re-installed relatively easily. For the deal on this car, it is worth not having the RWD components and buying them if you want them.

Theres a reason this turbo hasnt sold in the year its been advertised and I suspect that its because of the conversion to 2 wheel drive. Looking back at the sellers previous ads, it was constantly mentioned that it would be best to convert to AWD but the seller never did so despite indicating the cost would only be in the $2k neighborhood. The price was reduced over the year by almost $15k. That doesnt make a lot of sense if the conversion cost would be only $2k. I have a call into my dealer to get an estimate on the cost.

Look I am not affiliated, but let’s keep in mind this is a 50k mile ’01 modified 911 Turbo outside any warranty and priced at 35k. (Not some cream puff 3k mile ’05 garage queen) Any good independent shop will able to re-install the AWD for a fraction of what the dealer will charge. I once had a dealer estimate replacing the stock k16s on my car for $11,500.00… $11,500.00.
The damn thing is a good deal if the motor is in good shape which a good PPI would determine.

Good Lord man, $11,500?!! That is highway robbery! I've got two stock K16 turbos with 10,000 miles on em I'd let you have for at least half of that
I don't remember if he took out his front diff or simply disconnected it. If he still has all of the parts it's not a big deal to convert it back to awd.

Why is everyone getting so hung up on the RWD conversion? Geez..... buy it for that price and put it back yourself. Plenty of people have converted and are loving it. (I bought mine that way and prefer it RWD).

Seller doesnt have the parts. Dealer quoted me $8500 so I'm out. For those who said "just buy it" - its all yours.
