Once a buyer is "amenable to mods" the X50 option is pretty low value- given what is available today.

Adam - on that topic, if an X50 can get a $3k - $5k premium (all else being equal), what kind of power mods can you do to a non-X50 for similar money? Forgive me if this is an obvious question - I'm looking at 996 TTs and still learning.

Regardless of the cost,i would rather buy a factory performance package (X50) than the headache of dealing with after market mods.

Talk to Kevin at UMW or Tony at EPL....they tune non-X50 cars all the time and get some pretty damn good dyno printouts from them....but of course you have to invest in some upgrades...especially to a more free flowing exhaust system. The TT platform lends itself well to performance tuning at a relatively low entry investment. The real problem is stopping once you've started down that road. You start reading about this or that new doo-dad that adds another 40 HP and it becomes addictive. Some of the claims are BS...so do your homework before you let yourself get talked into some product that promises better performance.

Price seems way high - even at $55k

I picked up a 2003 X50 Tip with 28k miles last July for $45k

Is a tip even comparable pricewise with all things else being equal except for 6-speed?

tips are usually 8 - 10% cheaper if u compare 2 identical cars one being a Tip and the other being a 6sp

Plus a Tip equipped car has generally led an easier life.

Sincerely,

any good flash will get you more hp than the X50 package, and for a lot less money, add an exhaust and you will be way above any stock X50

i think Tony at EPl is running a special right now, i have his flash, its awesome

(and you are correct, its a slippy sloap, i'm going back to EPl in march for more upgrades to the turbos and some other stuff)

Love my Tip - especially in NJ where there is a lot of traffic. Drive it 3-4 times to work during the week and also on weekends - even in the winter.

A $10,000 premium is a lot to pay for a 6speed transmission IMHO. $65k is ridiculous - $55k is still high.

I wouldn't even stop at any of those "car dealers" on Route 46. They are all very shady.....VERY.

I don't know. My Tip hasn't seen an easy life. Many track miles now.

55k is high...i feel the market is under 50 for that car now.

Plenty of others for sale, so dont feel pressured to pull the trigger on this particular one.
