Flashing Check Engine and Pressure Gauge Bouncing

They kept car another 3 months. Mechanic trying esoteric stuff, convinced it is in Communications stuff. Sent computer, cluster to friends at Bosch to test, came back all clear. New fuel pump. New O2 sensors. He tested harness for resistances. Claim all fine.
Test car today, got it to exhibit sudden voltage drop on O2 sensor passenger bank within 10 minutes and flash CEL again. I am convinced there's some bad wire or ground between O2 and wherever it goes. Extremely frustrated.
I want to drive it off a cliff and collect insurance and start over. Sarcasm in case I get into an accident an insurer reads this. Don't know what to do except try new mechanic. Can't be waiting 3 months for another go there.

To be fair this was just supposed to be a data collect run. They didn't claim car was done. They just don't have time to drive it until it exhibits symptoms. But to go 3 months between tries is more than I can take. Been a bad Porsche experience for me this last year. I don't know anyone been out their car for a year.

I feel for you my friend. It has to be an electronic problem somewhere.
Try another mechanic.

I wound up getting a 2nd opinion rather than chasing electrical stuff. Short version: engine is out of the car again and timing being redone. Think the passenger bank was a little retarded. Apparently there is no tool for setting the timing on turbos? What a painful experience. This better do it.

Same issue but slightly improved. I still get brief hesitations, drop in power, and misfires on passenger bank driving smoothly 70 mph, 3400 rpm, 4th gear. But now instead of making a flashing check engine light and eventually staying lit, it just occasionally flashes (but the light hasn't stayed on yet). Before it would have certainly stayed lit after 20 minutes of this kind of driving. This leaves me thinking that it is the timing after all, and they just still don't have it right.

Last ditch effort by first shop. They called in some help and, through some new testing, believe it's the solenoids, despite having swapped them from side to side before. Ordered 6 new ones (2 between the spark plugs and 1 on top, both sides) and will give that a go. I hope it works. Much rather have that than the alternative, but not holding out much hope.

Bryce,
Have you considered telling the engine builder to eat it and just getting an engine pulled from another car? If that's an option, you might be able to avoid this hassle. It seems like your engine builders don't know what the hell they're doing...
For the record, which shops have you gone to to get the work done?

Well folks, 250 miles and no problems. For the first time in over a year I had a smile driving! After this trauma it is too early to say it's fixed in my mind---going to take some time to rebuild trust in the car---but given that I was able to create the CEL within about 3 minutes of driving, I think we got it.
Culprit: bad initial timing and faulty solenoids that regulate the oil flow/pressure on the lifters. Changed all 6. Recommend anyone getting a lifter job just to replace them while in there.
Will check back in after a few weeks of driving!
