Default Looking at 01 Turbo in morning? What to check?

As the title says. I have owned my '99 C4 for six years and upgrading. Anything special to look for? Turbo has 46k miles.
Thanks

The one major TSB that comes to mind is the check valve on the Turbo oil lines. IIRC, the updated part has a blue dot.

Apart from that, it should be a normal PPI. ECU readout, type 1 and type 2 readouts, general inspection, paint, etc.

If it is a very early 01, it should have front bumperettes (warts) and/or solid spoke wheels (rubber valve stems with grooves machined in the back of the spokes)

Please check the sticky threads at the top of the 996Turbo forum for an excellent reference thread on buying a 996Turbo.

Good luck.

Go for a test drive, cycle through the info shown on the bottom of the tach till you see "bar". When it's warmed up in second, third, or forth gear accelerate hard to the point of seeing a steady reading of .8 bar. It should feel like a weight on your chest is pushing you to the back of your seat.

If it passes this test, and you like the car, get a PPI and buy it!

When you drive it, in 2nd gear, bring it to WOT and let off the throttle to check for 2nd gear release. It shouldn't boost above .7 bar or it is flashed or modfied ECU.

Ask for all records and arrange a PPI with a local shop.

You won't see .8 bar at sea level unless it has been modded.

Over on Loren's website, Renntech.org Excellent guy and resource.

IIRC, it was only the 01's that had a TSB, later production had already switched to the valve.

Porsche ruined the handling when they added the glovebox, which is why they had to modify the chassis for MY02+ due to the glovebox introducing a loss in chassis stiffness.

Clearly this is why smart owners prefer the 01

Just make sure it is nice and shiny. That's the most important thing.

Second gear pop-out, clutch accummulator, spoiler rams, coolant pipe replacement, coil packs, and diverter valves are things you might look for in the service history.

Like with any sports car, they were made to be drivenin a sporty manner. Look for one that has been babied. I was lucky and foung one that was extremely will cared for and driven nicely. However in the search for that special car, I came across a lot that were used hard and driven to the ground. The condition of the transmission can tell a lot. It should be tight with no slop. Hard to describe in words but check for it. If the transmission was rebuilt or is new, that should raise concern. Of course the steering should be tight.... Also beware of modified cars, they have always been driven hard and many times abused. Good luck

An alignment check is not a bad idea in addition or part of the PPI. I stumbled into a bit of a mess by not doing that up front on my purchase.
