Need buying advice on 2001 996TT
I live in Colorado and have found a 2001 996TT in SoCal. The car is a 2 owner car originally from NJ. I drove the car and it is very tight and clean. I was able to find the dealer in NJ and they said the car was regularly serviced there though 2009. They said it was a CPO car through 2008. I have a deposit on the car and it is going in for a PPI early next week at the Porsche dealer. The car is white with dark tan interior. It is said to be 100% stock. The miles are 46K and he is asking $43,500. I will post pictures shortly and would like to know if anyone knows this car and has any comments on the "deal".

Looks like supple leather seats? They always look more worn in pics.
Price is meh, probably on the higher end for a 2001, however there are not as many white examples.
Good looking car. If it passes the ppi, enjoy it.

Hi Len, I see you own a 2001 TT. Besides the slave cylinder and 2nd gear "pop-out" issues are there other things that commonly go wrong I should be looking for on this year?

I just took delivery of my 2001 TT last week. Issues that I was told by the shop that did the PPI were diverter valves, clutch, rear wing, alternator, etc. They were pretty enthusiastic about the 996TT calling them bulllet proof and that they typically do not lose compression like the air cooled cars so leak downs are not as important. That said, i paid $42.5k and my car had 33k miles but every car, buyer and dealer are different. Good luck.

don't like the wood console...but can easily be changed. I recommend you negotiate the price before ppi and then adjust accordingly otherwise they will most likely only adjust from asking price.

If you are willing to go $43,500 - is there any reason you are not looking at 2002-2003 models?
2001 was the first model year, some improvements were made 2002+ (not that 2001 is bad)
Based on posts here, you should be able to get a 2002-2003 in your range.
Unless you love this car, options, trim, color...and the PPI is solid.
Don't settle.

Thanks for the feedback everyone and I do really like white. I will be tracking the car occasionally (PCA instructor) so dark colors are not practical because they show too many chips. I have negotiated a lower price and that is assuming the car is 100%. If/when anything is found during the PPI it will be brought up to spec for the negotiated price. I figure I might be a few thousand high based on what you folks are saying but I am not seeing anything on Autotrader, Craigslist or eBay for the high $30's. Where are you finding these cars? The car Lanny posted on this thread is an automatic and is listed at $47,9xx. There is another silver/black '01 in Colorado Springs (6 spd) and it is $46,9xx.
