Default The Rebuild of a 996 Turbo

Long story short, I was t-boned on the drivers side two months ago and this what she looks like naked. I'm glad it wasn't my fault, the 20k repair bill is nuts and glad she is getting fixed. Driving a rental car and not having your baby for the summer is painful

looks like they will be doing a very good job though, no cut corners it seems.

I got rear ended in my TT 9 days after I got her. The repair bill was 27k. Took about 3 months to get it all done. I was so tired of a rental by then. I feel your pain.

You might also want to pursue diminished value claim while you're at it for an accident of that magnitute that was someone else's fault.

how's the frame damage? are they going to paint the whole car? $20k seems like they'll just paint the left side. i've been quoted $10-18k for a complete respray. the pics looks great. what kind of white angle lens did you use?

man, those are painful pics. that sucks. i hope this doesn't make your car a salvage title. when i was hit, i sweated bullets waiting to find out whether my car would be "totalled" or repaired. thankfully it was deemed a loss. i don't like the look of frame straighteners. or i should say, porsche turbo's on them.

good luck with it.

My info is the Porsche factory uses Celette Bench to assemble/construct the tubs/chassis of new cars.

There are no better alignment benches around.

Sincerely,

Macster.

"no better alignment benches around" doesn't change the fact that if it's on the bench after already having been built, it's because it's been BENT. i'm not convinced that a straightened frame will have the same tensile strength as the car once had. perhaps it will. either way, it's hardly optimal.

i still feel for the op.

Scawt,
For such a major fix I'm very interested in your opinion about the shop after all is said and done. If you are fully satisfied with their work I think it would be good to know.

Sorry about the situation.

did you use a fish eye lens for those shots? the lines look distorted. looks like they are fixing it prorperly. were yo injured?
Is that your spare tire on the front?
did you check to see if the accident caused the coolant pipes to leak? maybe insurance will cover that and perhaps a clutch and/or flywheel?

I hope you and no one else were injured in the accident. Good luck with the repair and I hope it doesn't take too long!

Most of the work is related to the body work repair and replacement parts. $2k for one factory wheel! The entire left side will be painted and blended to the rest. The lens is a Nikon 10.5 fisheye.

I haven't settled and will go after it!

Yes, that is correct. They used porsche specific mounting brackets/jigs for the car to go on the Celette prior to any removal of structural items. The serious damage was at the A pillar/door hinge area pictured above. They had to weld in a new piece there

I'll get some new pics later this week!
