Default Anyone running 19's on stock suspension

Just wondering what it looks like... particularly with 315/25r19 and 235/35r19 tires

That will be a very harsh ride.

A set of 19" Champions came on my 996T and I got rid of them and went back to 18" OEM sizes so that I could add a set of PSS10s. The ride "improvement" was questionable even on 18s---after having my car back for a few weeks. Having 19s with coilovers would have been challenging---to me. Not sure I would go that route again---as a street car. The X73 was probably a better bet for street use. If you run really low-profile tires with a stiff set of coilovers the car will hop/bounce/twitch over every imperfection in the road.

PSS10s are a STREET coilover system and are good, but you need to make sure that the car gets dialed in right. Make sure you stick with a set of coilovers designed for the street and not the track---unless you will track it.

There are different thoughts on this, some say they have experienced no handling differences and some say they have. Not going to 19's myself I have seen information available that Porsche tunes the entire suspension with tire sizes as part of the equation. With that said, the ride will get harder, since the sidewalls will probabaly be narrower if trying to keep the same circumfrance of the 18's. One other thought, as your sidewalls get narrower, and if your streets are marginal, you do risk more chance of damaging a rim if your hit a pothole. Keep in mind that your front and rear tires have to be very close since these cars are fornt wheel drive.

I'm not sure I would do 19's on stock suspension, but I think stock suspension has lots of room for improvement. Now if you plan on doing coil overs, you can get them installed and dialed in w/19's no problem. I have been on 19's for 6 years with PSS9s dialed in for the 19's. My PSS9s are the euro version as I am in a cab (different spring setup). BTW the ride is way better than stock on 18's ever was, ever...

Thank you for the replies. I tried looking for the x73 but no one is selling. I bought a set of h&r street coilovers for 1950 shipped. The pss10 are a bit much for me. My goals are more for looks. My car is an every other weekend car so the harsh ride wont get old quick.

If you are most interested in filling the wheel wells, I would stay with 18s and go with the PSS10 or x73 suspensions if you can find one. I have x73, 18" GT3 wheels with turbo offsets, and 14mm spacers. The look is perfect IMO, with much improved handling, no rubbing, no funny suspension clunks, and minimal ride penalty.

19s can be done, but they have some challenges on the 996 AWD.

I don't understand this comment? I have had no issues what so ever with the 19's on my TT

I'm just going by the research I did. There are Limited tire choices in the right diameters, no N-spec options, rougher ride, increased risk of rim damage on rough roads, odd PSM behavior near the limits as reported by some.

Like I said, it's doable and I'm glad yours it working out. It looks great BTW.

I was lucky enough to get both 19" and 18" wheels with my car. The 19" look great but the ride is harsh.

i once had 19's on a previous tt, stock suspension. i did it primarily for "looks" also, and that was the only discernable benefit. i later learned i could have the "looks" i wanted, while even augmenting the already decent handling/stance of the car. but that was achieved by going to gt2 sizes on wheels/tires alone.19's were somewhat harsh(er), and i learned firsthand the sacrifice to handling at speed that 19's as compared to 18's, tends to exacerbate. for primarily street use? 19's are fine. kind of like hankook ventus v12 tires are. in relative terms.

lastly, you mentioned this is mostly an aesthetic decision, rather than a performance based one.. which begs the question..

why not just get some h&r lowering springs for a few hundred bucks? true, they're not coilovers or motons, which are certainly far better but might not be a good "spend" given your goals. the springs are indeed "cheap" but they do the job, and will flatten the stance and ride, with noticeable improvement to handling ( if NOT ride quality lol ).. but even on 19's, no doubt.

Take your pick - 18" OE wheels, after market 19".

I have not found the 19" significantly harsher than the 18" and it has not been a challenge.

SSST - "odd PSM near the limit?" I haven't tried either size at 190 mph plus so I can't comment on odd PSM near the limit.
