About to put my 996 TT back on the road but rather surprised that it has not faired too well. The exhaust tips have rusted, the GT3 battery despite being on a charger has gone dead last week and the whole car seems to have attracted a whole covering of grime which I find difficult to explain as none of my Ferraris have even suffered this

The grime you mention is the car kept in garage under cover etc? My car sits over winter and have not had exhaust tips rust= high humidity? The batteries going bad is normal, mine is one year old with tender so far good. My 928 ate a battery a year no matter what lol.

Exhaust tips: may I delicately venture to say your tips are plated steel as opposed to plated/polished stainless. Nothing you can do except use metal polish. My experience storing cars with polished exhaust finishers is the same; plated steel tend to corrode in storage.

Battery: It's curious that your battery died and it was on a charger. Assuming a modern float charger like a CTEK, and a full load of electrolyte covering the plates(I need to top off once per year), you could have a grounding strap issue. That could also explain the attraction to the dust as the body is being 'charged' somehow by a bad/frayed cable/connection, and is attracting oppositely charged dust particles.

Good luck
