Default New Owner finally obtains his 2002 996tt

Hi All,
After several months of searching and researching a couple of weeks ago I finally tracked down a 996TT. What’s funny is that autotrader and cars.com were both a complete bust. Over priced and mainly dealers trying to sell medium quality cars. ( My personal opinion). It wasn’t until I used http://www.autotempest.com which searches the nations craigslist websites that I began to see some decent cars.

I finally came across a 2002 Black on Black 996TT (52k miles) with the X50 package in Arizona. The pictures were ok, nothing special but once I talked with the owner I was sold on the car. I found out that he was a meticulous car own like myself and said all the right things. Interior was 9 /10 and the paint was perfect. Everything worked properly. Now I’ve worked on cars since high school and I know when someone doesn’t know what they are talking about and this guy was very honest and knew all the proper terminology. So I bought the car sight unseen.

I had the car shipped in enclosed transport from Arizona to Georgia. The car was exactly as described and everything works and functions correctly. The interior is a 9/10 and the only real wear area is the driver’s sill plate. If I want to be picky the power steering is a touch loud and there is some rattling going on once the engine heats up however I’ve read that this is normal. I will probably take the car to a local (Alpharetta, GA.) shop to have it checked out.

I have babied the car around a bit to get use to it and this thing is fast. I mean ungodly fast. Honestly I haven’t taken it above 5k rpm yet.

Thanks to all the folks on the board that have taken time out of their day to comment on my previous posts.

Matt

Looks nice rattling at start up is normal according to a lot of people but should not be rattling when warm.

Congrats! Looks like an awesome car. I'm in the same boat as you. I purchased mine site unseen and it still hasn't arrived. Hopefully I will have it by Sunday. I hope mine turns out as well. Any pics of your interior?

Is the car a 6-speed manual?

Hey Matt, that's a nice one. Your story is quite similar than mine. I got the chance to find an awesome example from a Porsche fanatic. I've been getting to know my car and I made a list of the little quirks I found so far (I'm extra OCD about my P cars...).

Enjoy, your TT looks very nice.

Glad to see you are happy, it's such a cool feeling when the car is actually sitting in you're garage.

Great color and year! Don't worry about the rattle. Some say it can be quieted by oil viscosity choice.
