Anyone DD their TT?
Ok so I'm half heartedly kicking this idea around.
I'm due another car for the station trip - 35 or so R/T daily with a once a week drive to a satellite office which is about 100 R/T, so 250 a week, say.
The TT I have is too nice to DD, but a cheaper tip (with say 60k on it) would be in the same price range as I'm used to paying for the car I use for this trip. Tip because driving in NJ in rush hour is a drag with a m/t.
Obviously I'm looking at more servicing costs, plus an extra set of wheels and tires for the winter.
Anyone DD?
What sort of running costs would I be looking at realistically?

I alternate between my 2007 Boxster S and 2002 6MT TT for DD duties. ~55miles round trip, mixture of freeway and a nice windy "25mph" road through the foothills.
Boxster gets ~20mpg, TT ~16mpg. They go through tires at about the same rate. 10k miles for rears, 15-18k miles for fronts. Interestingly, tires cost is about the same for both.
I do my own maintenance and basic repairs.
Ignoring oil changes, gas and insurance, running costs for the TT are ~39c/mile, vs 23c/mile for the Boxster. TT number is a little inflated as I have replaced rotors and pads on all 4 corners (~$1100 in parts). The Boxster will need this in the next 5-10k miles which will bring its running costs to ~33c/mile.
Good Luck!

The biggest usage is my work commute. 60 miles round trip mostly freeway.
Boxster gets around 23mpg, the Turbo is hard pressed to get 20mpg.
My Boxster was in the shop from around mid April to just the other day. During that time I used the Turbo for all my driving. I have my AMEX statement for 5/25. These are all fuel charges: 4/26 $33.97; 4/28 $31.34; 5/2 $39.27; 5/4 $28.79; 5/7 $27.96; 5/9 $18.70; 5/12 $32.03; 5/16 $33.61; 5/19 $32.02; 5/22 $34.01 and 5/24 $32.85. Gasoline was around $3.00/gallon all that time.
Rear tire life is about the same: 20K miles; fronts double that.
Both get oil/filter services at 5K miles. Other services when due on miles.
The Turbo is just flat out more expensive car. The same job requires more labor if done to the Turbo. Turbo parts cost more, too.
Turbo front brakes lasted 120K miles. Rears are original (and with 145K miles on them now). I don't recall how many miles I get from the Boxster's brakes but they are long lived too.
Clutches are both factory original. (I get good clutch life, too, from my cars.)
I don't mind the cost, well, I do but hey it is a Turbo. It costs money to keep up and keep on the road. But there is a cost associated with using the Turbo as a DD.
My biggest concern would be in bad weather and the risk you and your car being involved in an accident by accident.
Thankfully here when weather gets bad -- about 7 or 8 days spread out over several months during our winter and "rainy season" -- I drive the Boxster. Now with 300K miles on it while I still enjoy the car if it gets taken out no biggie. (Though it has been such a great car it would kind of break my heart to lose it to an accident.)

I dd mine. I didn't buy it to look at. If I had a super showroom clean example with crazy low miles that would be a different story... no it wouldn't I'd still DD it. It's just a car. Drive it. Enjoy it. When it stops being fun replace it with something that is.

I DD mine once the signs of our winter clouds and rain are over until it starts again, so from late April-late October.
6 speed, maybe 18-22 miles RT per day. I get 18 MPG average- can't really get into boost much in the type of traffic in my area, have to go out into the mountains to play around, so this helps with the mileage I think. Change the oil every 5k miles... I run stickier tires than average so my tire costs are a little higher, but with a more street-friendly compound you could probably get decent life from a set. I wash it every week and at the end of the driving season I'll go over everything and try to hide/repair any chips that may have been put in, then she will be tucked away for most of the winter save for the rare nice winter day.
To me, it is no more expensive to DD than any other car so long as you don't have a failure, then it is typical Porsche repair prices.

If work didn't pay for a car, fuel and insurance I'd DD mine. I have to wait for weekends to get in my car. Sometimes that becomes tricky too. Drive it every chance you get. When we're gone, I guarantee someone else will be enjoying our cars.

Life it too short to keep your nice stuff reserved for occasional use. I daily mine and have for 6 yrs. it's none the worse for wear and while mileage is higher than if I kept it in the garage in a bubble, it's still fine and I'm happier for it.
I don't know why someone wouldn't daily theirs as long as you have nice parking for it, why not enjoy the car more?

Damage in the station parking lot.
Vandalism in the lot in NJ.
It will get hit - ******** who swing their doors without looking.
All the cars I've used there have had door dings.
The building we rent in NJ isn't in a wonderful area. People still break into cars there.
The green one has original paint and I'd like to keep it that way.
Hence a less nice one as a DD. The VWs are treated as appliances.

When dry I drive mine regularly to work and take the long way; often leave for long lunch and just drive on some nice roads by my office. I've thought the same thing about a cheap tip to DD but mine is what I want to drive an I don't want to pay to replicate it.
Get some other bad *** car that is different to drive and fun too, ZO6 bar car with some dings already?
