I'm sure out of all the Turbos out there, most of them are driven around town and country roads at under 2-2.500 rpm.

Higher rpm's equals more wear, so if anything, keep the revs down.

Why is this a "problem"?

This seems more like another "I own a Porsche, therefore I have to worry about things that do not exist". Were you not told as to WHY to keep the revs above a certain rpm?

not much power when not in boost. keeping the car in the higher rpms keeps the turbos spooled up and doesnt lug the motor making it work harder. doesnt mean you have to run around at 7000 rom all the time but 2000 -2500 rpm isnt ideal either. try running 1-4 gear in the 3500-5000 rpm range and see how much happier the car is

i drive a lot at 2750+/- or so when just putting around, cruising in higher gears. the range i strictly avoid if possible though, is 3k for any extended periods, because that's exactly where the variocam "stutter" lives. i hate that spot for that reason.

The 3000+ came from the old aircooled days, cylinder hot spotting from low fan/air speed, additionally would generally be lugging due to low torque output
they are harmonic considerations still with GT1 engine but you don't need to be revving the crap out of it in low torque situations either

rob, what again is the cause of that "hi/low" variocam thing again? that is most annoying when right at 3k.

it's exactly that, switch of cam profile, the 'surge' is the change of engine output/character from that switch
Like adding a big cam to an old v8 on the fly

all i know is if i get thru that range over 3k quickly, i never feel it!

cruising right at 3k is stupidly quirky as it stutters up and down lol. thx for clarifying that.

How does one measure happiness in a cars rpm range? Not trying to be a dick here, really asking as many say exactly this, what does it mean?

I do cruise at 2k rpm sometimes in 6th gear, car feels perfectly fine. I only do this when the road is flat, slightest uphill and I downshift.

I personally can feel one thing the higher rpm's, the car feels very very smooth. Vibrations etc all vanish.

Yes and the word was that you had to drive at higher RPM's in order to keep the plugs clean on my MI '72 911T.

mostly on the "E" and "S" versions that had more overlap. Otherwise the plugs got loaded.

Also on the aircooled cars - the pre 964 oil pump worked much better above 2500 rpms and the cooling fan also worked better above that speed.

you answer your own question regarding "happiness". smoothness ability to accelerate without stutter or lag etc. as for 6 gear the lower rpm isnt as relevent unless you want to accelerate quickly. its the lower gears that feel worse when lugging the motor at 2000 rpm or so. its a personal feeling to decide were the car wants to be at. deep down these are high performance cars and driven with that in mind the motor easily accepts all the power you want from it
