Default Issues with 265/35ZR18 Continental ExtremeContact DW

I have a 1999 996 C2 with a ROW M030 suspension. I replaced Continentals in the rear with the same Continentals. the first time I used them, they were frighteningly floaty on the track. But, after a few laps in hot weather, they behaved much like Michelin PS. However, these new Continentals are floaty after several hundred highway miles and create a scary float when I exceed 100 mph (which I only do when no one is around and I'm testing these tires). Is this a bad tire for a rear engine car?

I've had the Continental DW tires installed on my car for a few months now, and I haven't experienced the floaty feeling you are referring to. This includes a track day reaching speeds of 140mph. I have 295/35/18 installed at the back instead of the 265's you mention.

Only thing I have noticed compared to my previous Michelin PS2's is that the Contis have a softer sidewall which require more steering input. I went from 19 to 18's so the feeling is even more noticeable. On the plus side, the Contis still looked brand new after the track day, vs the PS2's that took a beating.

Thanks, ATSR and Pho King Fast. I'm not sure how I landed in the 997 section. But, I do appreciate your responses.

I guess a track day with these tires can make a world of difference. It did the last time.

But, I won't buy them again. Michelins are good as soon as they're on the car. I can't afford a floaty rear end anywhere at anytime.
