Is anyone else having trouble finding DI 40? Ordered from one place with a delivery date of 4/1 that got moved to 4/24. I cancelled the order and ordered from another place that said it ships directly from the manufacturer. Now I am being told it won't ship until 5/16. I did not order from LN because their website only showed quantities of 12. I only put about 3-4k miles a year so I usually just change the oil once in the spring when I take it out of winter storage. I prefer not to have extra oil sitting around.

Well, stop doing that. Change the oil BEFORE winter hibernation.

For 3-4K miles per year, just use any one of the +200 Porsche A40 approved oils. No need to chase a boutique oil like Driven. Go buy Mobil 5W50 at Napa Auto Parts. Or Motul's 5W40.

Yes, change the oil before you put the car away. The moisture and acids in the used oil don't need to stay in the car all winter. Drain them and have fresh, clean oil in there while it sits.

Some interesting thoughts on timing for winter storage but that doesn't help me now. Where can I find DI40?

Sidenote, the suggestion for changing the oil seems prior to storage seems like it might be coming from those that don't have to deal with winter storage. I stop driving the car when we receive our first snow so I don't expose it to road salt and cinders. I can't predict when this happens.

Have you tried getting it directly from Driven? I need some soon also or I am going to have to use Mobil again.

There isn't any from LN, from Summit, or from Driven directly. I had a Cayenne oil change coming up and ordered from both LN and Driven and got the early April date and then the delayed May date. Cancelled both orders and just used DT40 I keep on hand in mass quantity again for this year. I'm probably just going to stay with DT40 since the UOA reports have looked great with it, I don't need to keep inventory on another type of oil, and it's small displacement motors that are more prone to LSPI, which the big 4.8L v8 in my Cayenne is not.

Since LSPI is the hook for DI40 and DT40 doesn't address it, why not buy a 5w40 SN plus oil that does address the issue and is available year round. I think Penzoil 5w40 qualifies. Not boutique maybe, but it is available.

For me personally, I've had very good UOA reports with DT40 and it's the trend analysis that's at least as important as a single UOA report. Constantly switching oils and having them mixed together a bit during that first oil change means it's not until the 2nd, 3rd,or 4th one where you really get a picture for how the engine is getting along with it.

I'm not as concerned about LSPI in the only DFI motor I have, which is the Cayenne and the properties of DT40 better protect the rest of the fleet. I have 2 great UOA reports on the Cayenne with DT40 so don't see a reason to change in my case.

If I had the Cayenne and my 997s were 997. 2 motors, I'd probably switch from DT40 to DI40 for all of them but the DT40 is better for the versions of 997s I have.

Also, I just don't think the mainstream oils are as good - for example Mobil 1 which I've seen in multiple UOA reports of my cars be broken down in as few as 3,500 miles. I lost oil pressure in a motor with Castrol synthetic many years ago when there wasn't anything wrong with the oiling system - the oil just watered out in the heat and lost all its viscosity. I've never used Pennzoil, but assume it's similar to these other brands that in order to achieve some of these certifications they have, and to comply with regulations and mandates, are too low in Zinc and Phosphorous for what has shown to work well for me so far. Motul would be the only other choice I'd go with and had good UOA results from it before changing to Driven, but I am fully stocked on that currently so no reason to look at making a change at this point.

That's like hoarder level there I like it. I keep 40 quarts or so on hand but need 0w40, 0w20, 5w20, 5w30, 10w30, 15w40, 15w50 for various cars and toys, so only have enough for next change for any vehicle on hand.

I stock up for the coming year at the end of the prior year when people are having their Christmas sales, so the pic is actually light by about 18 quarts of DT40 as I've changed the oil in the Cayenne and my silver 997 for this year, plus there's another box of 12 still sealed up. The rest of what's in the picture will get used used up by the end of the year with the other cars and the boat.

We have been assured that oil is inbound to Driven's distribution center. Every case they made is coming to LN - no one else will have it. If I were to guess, we should have it in about 10 business days. After filling back orders, we'll have about half a skid left.

Thanks for everyone's patience while we work with Driven to resolve availability issues. We will try to keep some in production at all times to ensure we don't run out like with the DT40 or DT50.

Sorry Charles, I had to cancel my order a little over a week ago. Without knowing the delivery date I went with Pentosin this time.

The guy that answered the phone to cancel my order was very friendly and understanding. I have had nothing but excellent service when dealing with LN.

Can I go straight from Mobil1 to DI40, or is there an intermediate flush oil that is recommended?

Just change it like normal. Nothing new or different is needed. If you want to get more of the old oil out let it drain longer, if you have a DI engine.
