list with some commentary
- 1972 MGB ragtop in British Racing Green (paid $1,600 to my sister's boyfriend in 1983. Many things broke, and were fixed by me and my father. Sold it for $950 in 1989 with a blown head gasket.)
- 1980 Suzuki GS450 (single cylinder, horrible tooth-loosening ride. sold it after a couple months).
- 1980 Toyota Corolla Wagon (paid $200 in 1988 and it needed nothing)
- 1978 Pontiac Grand Safari Wagon (paid $800 with 148K miles on it in 1990, odometer dead, great for moving, tranny gave up the ghost on a highway in Maine, once found 2 guys in the car stealing it in Boston, long story. never needed a key to start it after that)
- 1986 Honda Accord (paid around $1,800 in 1991)
- 1988 Toyota Celica (paid $3,300 in 1993)
- 1987 Toyota 4Runner (paid about $2,500 in 1995, needed a clutch)
- 1998 Subaru Outback (paid around $24K, first brand new car at age 31)
- 2000 BMW Z3 2.8 in British Racing Green (leased for 40 months aka 4 summers. fantastically fun car)
- 2001 BMW 540i 6 speed (custom ordered blue on black from Germany. this was a brilliant car)
- 2003 Infiniti FX35 (wife's car, utterly reliable, worst blind spot of any car I've owned)
- 2004 BMW M3 6 speed (foolish purchase with a kid on the way, dumb trade of the 540i...within 2 years my son could kick the shifter from the child seat in the back and it had to go.)
- 2005 Mercedes E500 v8 4matic (sensible ~even trade for the M3)
- 2008 BMW X5 v8 (primarily wife's car. some stupid things broke on this car, including the passenger seat sensor the day I bought it, and the gas gauge was forever failing. great road trip car).
- 2011 Audi S4 * (this is the most reliable and boring to drive sports car ever. still keep it at our ski house. it's great in the snow, unless it's over a foot or so, then you're dead)
- 2014 Mercedes GLS450 V8 (wife really wanted it. amazing interior. within a year she hated it--super pain to park. she really wanted collision avoidance but unable to locate one in US. she rear ended someone. my fault)
- 2016 Porsche Cayenne GTS (carmine red, black trim and wheels. just a fantastic car. somehow I got rid of it thinking I needed a third row. never had one single issue with this car. will get another...)
- 2016 Subaru Outback * (wife replaced the GLS450 with this. still have it for the kids to drive. utterly reliable and dings and scuffs are no big deal).
- 2018 Mercedes GLS63 AMG * (amazing engine, interior, ride, eats gas and costs $125 to fill up. several insanely stupid electronic problems MB has not solved in 1.5 years, including false parking sensor alerts in traffic and it thinks I'm towing something and the trailer has all kinds of broken tail light. never had a trailer on it. I can't wait to get rid of it after 2 more winters since I bought winter rims and tires. no better road trip car though.)
- 2019 Toyota RAV4 hybrid * (wife's car. damn thing get 40 mpg around town and costs like 40 bucks to fill it, which in California is unthinkably cheap).
- 2010 Porsche 911 C4S * (bought in August)
* still own
