What cars have you owned/still own prior to 911
Hello RL,
As the title says.. what sort of cars was on your upgrade path to end up at a 911.
I've been an e92 m3 owner for 4 years now and I can't think of anything else as an upgrade besides a 911.
Curious about what life decisions everyone else has made up to this point

I added the 997 as a daily driver since my Aston was a bit too flashy to show up at work.
I also have an mans trans e46 M3 garage queen with 40k miles, a family hauler BMW X5 and a Motorcycle what I never drive.

All these are manuals
1993 BMW 318i
first non company car. First performance car I ever drove. I loved it
-> 2000 BMW 528i
fit having 2 kids, but the radiator cracked and baked all the plastics
-> 2008 BMW 335i cab
Freakin' loved this car. It got smashed as I sat at a red light, or I would still have it. Could not buy another one once I found out they were piping "ruummm ruumm" sounds into the cab of the newer ones. In 2008 only they had this incredible engine that they had to tone down in later years to meet fleet mileage standards.
-> 2010 997.2 S cab
This car is an absolute dream to drive. It has almost 150K miles and I have been chasing gremlins lately. (I drive the crap out of it) But I have not owned anything in its class.

(1987 Jeep TJ), (1984 Mazda RX7), (1986 Toyota MR2), (1990 Jeep YJ), (1996 Jeep XJ Cherokee), (1999 Jeep TJ), (2000 Land Rover Discovery), (2005 Volvo XC90),( 2013 Jeep JK Rubicon 10A), (2017 Audi Q5), (2018 Jeep Wrangler JLU), (2007 Porsche 997).
Edit. Not sure how I could forget my very first car. I guess my brain blocked the painful memories. It was a 1976 Triumph TR7.... Drove it every second week-end cause the rest of the time it was down and waiting for parts.
Presently still own the last 3.

Racer
Triumph TR6-Austin Healy Bug Eyed Sprite-Fiat X/1 9- Mazda Miata-BMW 325i-Honda S2000-Corvette C6-2012C2S.
all have been non daily drivers or weekend cars. All were purchased new except for the Sprite.
The TR6 left the fondest memories, as it was the first and I dated my now wife of almost 50 years in this car. The BMW was nothing but problems, and the Honda S 2000 never even hiccuped but it had the ride quality of a tank. the Corvette was almost trouble free and the C2S tho it has had some minor issues seems to be a keeper as it offers the best of many things I now look for in a week end car. (I use the back seats for grand kids)

fun cars over the years - '86 Firebird, "68 Ford Fairlane 302, '84 928, '86.5 928, '78 928, '85 928, '03 Boxster S, '05 997, 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca, 05 Mustang GT, 06 Mustang GT, 07 Mustang Shelby GT, 06 Mustang GT (2nd of its kind for me).
Loved each and every one of them. Still have the 997 (daily plus track duty), and the 78 928 (relegated to garage queen and sunny days), and will likely be buying back that 2d 06 Mustang GT (it was configured and optioned exactly as I liked it). Of them all, I like the 928's the best, and of those, the 78 sits at the top. The Laguna Seca was the most potent of the bunch.
Had a few motorcycles too. And oh yeah, a Jeep CJ-5 and a modern Jeep Wrangler.

FIAT = Fix It Again Tony!
High school... Great memories... often think of getting another one, but then I remember FIAT = Fix IT Again Tony
1976 Fiat Spider 5spd MT (began my passion for convertible roadsters and manuals) Love/hate relationship. Love the way it looked, drove, and so much fun... Hated that it broke down a lot and had to carry a box of fuses and fuel pumps
MITSUBISHI !
My fast and Furious decade and pursuit of 11 second quarter miles: All 5 speed MT (FAST for the 1990's)
1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse 1.8L 95 HP
1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T 200 HP 2.0L Turbo (Modified 300 HP)
1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX 200 HP 2.0L Turbo (Modified 350 HP)
1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX 210 HP 2.0L Turbo (Modified 500 Hp with 25psi boost on race gas) Quarter Mile. 11.7 seconds at 120 mph
My first "Brand New" Mitsubishi Eclipse Base model after graduating high school and heading off to college. Only 95 hp.. no *****, but fun to drive.
1992 Eclipse GS-T modified to 300 hp and 15 psi boost. Front wheel drive. It was pretty fast, but 1st-2nd gear was a joke with all that torque steer. Violent launches and front axle hop made my windshield wipers go on!! . Loved the look and color back then, but could only manage 13.0 quarter miles at about 106 mph due to poor traction with front wheel drive only..
Then moved on to a 1994 Eclipse GSX All Wheel drive. Now I had some traction! Modified this to about 350-375 hp with 15-18 psi boost. Quarter mile times now into the 12's. 12.5 @ 114 mph. (pic taken at a boat/camping trip and swim trunks were short back then )
My Last and Fastest Mitsubishi. Pride and Joy was 1997 Eclipse GSX All Wheel Drive I purchased brand new. By 1998 it was modified to put out 460-500 Hp running between 18-25 psi of Boost depending on Gas Octane. 91 vs 100 race gas. 5 Speed Manual Transmission, Internals upgraded, ported and polished everything and I helped build and modify the engine with a good friend. 0-60 mph 3.4 seconds. Best Quarter mile times on race gas and 100 octane fuel 11.7@120 mph.
LEXUS
My attempt to grow up and have a nice daily commuter... beautiful and great car, put over 150k miles on it, but I always look like a young kid driving it...
1995 Lexus SC400 silky smooth V8 engine
TRUCKS
**Honorable Mentions... The Trucks that carried my motorcycles around from dirt bikes to road bikes and everything in between. Not to mention the dozens of friends I helped move out of homes/apts...
1994 Ford Ranger XLT extended cab 3.0L V6. Great, compact, fun little truck for hauling dirt bikes in the 90's. Owned it about 6 years.
2004 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Hemi 5.7 Liter V8. Damn, I loved this truck. Hauling Bikes, pulling trailers, Cruising in safety. Felt invincible. Great at burnouts when next to a prius
owned it about 10 years 100k miles when sold.
PORSCHE
Taking the Red Pill and stepping in to the Porsche-Verse: Porsche precision and handling became reality to me
1998 Porsche Boxster (passion for convertible roadsters continues). My 1st Porsche and purchased in Y2K.(Installed 3.4 996 engine in 2007) Still own going on 20 years!
2004 Porsche Cayenne S for the wifey and home depot runs. 2004 Sold after owning 10 years and 100k miles.
2013 Porsche Cayenne S for the wifey. (Replaced Sold Cayenne S 2004) Still own.
2008 Cayman S always loved this car from the moment it was announced. purchased 2013. Still own.
2006 Porsche Carrera 4S . Purchased 2010 with only 6k miles odometer. Still own almost a Decade now and still get excited to drive it. It was a passion and a dream come true.
SOLD 2004 Cayenne S after 10 years and 100k miles ownership.
Still own 4 Porsches
Porsche 911 was the high school dream and on my poster wall, but the Boxster totally got me hooked into the Porsche universe and I never looked back. Working my way up financially to owning the 911 was a dream come true. Should've / could've got a 911 sooner, but so happy the way the timing worked out on this one. No regrets!!

Had a bunch of not super interesting rides followed by 3 Toyota Tundras. Now the 997 shares the garage with a ‘15 Cayenne S, ‘16 Cayenne GTS and a ‘16 Ram 2500 that does horse trailer and farm duty.
