It just occurred to me that seller could be telling the truth - The lug nuts were placed on top of soft top while changing flat tire when flood started.

You just need to remember one important thing when buying any car that has a salvage/flood ect title. At some point you are going to want to sale it. How long will you set on it before the right buyer comes along.
I agree with the others. Run Forest run.

Would you expect him to say anything different - ask him if he was present when the water reached the lug bolts. Rust doesn't "pop up out of nowhere" - it is insidious and takes a while to show up

It got up to the lugs...about an hour before it got up to the roof.

Another thing to consider. Check with your insurance to make sure if they sell comprehensive coverage on salvaged/flooded cars. Most insurance will cover only liability. So if you do buy the car and get into an at-fault accident, you'll have to pay to fix your own car. I'd stay away of this car if I were you.

Thanks. Disregard my note. It would be fun to wander through there and see what the Carrera GT went for. And a bunch of other ones.

In all seriousness, I totally understand if the OP wants to just move on but it might help out the next, less diligent, buyer if s/he were to share these photos with the seller. On the off chance that the seller is honest, but misinformed, this will set him straight and s/he can market the car properly. If on the other hand the seller is deliberately misrepresenting the car, sending these pictures could help the buyer with a fraud claim ("as is" sales don't eliminate a fraud claim). Slim chance admittedly, but the more the seller knows that he's easily revealed as a fraud by the existence of the photos the better the chance that the seller stops lying so blatantly about it.

Interesting that it has been driven 32k miles since the flood damage. I wonder what electronics have been replaced in the last 32k miles.

With the state of the inside frunk and interior from the pics of the auction, someone couldn't care less about this car. Very rough looking car. And why would they bring the battery inside the car?????

Run and don't look back.

I don't mind buying salvage vehicles with verifable minor damage at the right price but flood damage is one thing that would keep me away.

I am often surprised at how much misinformation about salvage vehicles is spread on the site. Salvage vehicles might not be as easily financed but rarely would anyone have trouble fully insuring one. If your current insurance carrier won't, there are plenty that will.
