Foxwell NT520 Pro vs NT530
#61
After reading about problems with some scanning tools, incl Foxwell, I ordered the NT530 from amzn thinking that I could conveniently return the unit if it were buggy or performed badly. As noted, it came with the Porsche s/w loaded and was easy to register and update using FoxAssist.
The US distributor whose contact info was included with the unit is helpful for basic info, but not for deciphering advanced features like recoding. I found the attached spreadsheet quite helpful, but it is more notional than definitive, perhaps b/c it needs to be updated as Foxwell (according to the distributor) is adding features for each model continuously. For example, I'm interested in three 991 recodings (aka "special functions"): battery registration, ABS activation, and turning off the annoying seat-belt chime. The first is addressed by line 195 in the spreadsheet, but apparently only applies to installation of an OEM battery, as noted previously. Line 345 is entitled "bleed the brakes" and may activate the ABS unit, but I've yet to check it out. I found nothing in the spreadsheet about the seat-belt chime.
But easy resetting of maintenance intervals, and the comprehensive list of fault codes (and the ability to clear them) alone make the NT530 worthwhile IMO.

Received a Flash Sale notice from Foxwell. The NT530 and several other models are on sale from Foxwell directly. NT530 - $149 right now.

Sorry if a little off subject but does anyone have a NT520Pro and a 997.2 GT3? For the life of me, I cannot get the NT520 Pro to work. I get a VIN decode error or something. With my Pan Turbo and 997.1 C2S, I have no issues.

Thanks to those that have gone before. What I read was encouraging enough to order an NT530 from Amazon set-up for Porsche. It arrived today and was set-up for Porsche as advertised.
I was looking for a device that could read error codes, reset the oil service indicator and allow me to update user preferences without taking the car (2009 C2) into the dealer.
The first thing I wanted to do was set the doors to automatically lock when the car is started.
Each Key can be coded separately.
Changed Inactive to Active
Did not include screenshot of entering today's date as part of the process.
I was excited to be able to make this update on my own, even if this was a minor change. I'll take another look at the capability questions in this thread to see if I can answer any of them.
For the money the NT530 seems like a decent option.

Got NT530 and it has Porsche software loaded. Was able to read and clear P2096 code. Can’t seem to figure out how to check for software updates using their app. Selecting update from computer or device only shows That card in device at 1% capacity. No version info of available updates.
considering returning as buggy support ticket requires all fields be populated but won’t allow any character to be entered!

Email foxwell support. It's way faster and easier. Their time zone is 8 or more hours away from ours but they do get back to you fairly quickly. There is a note on their product website that talks about how to get additional updates. Use that email address. They may have to reset your serial number on the back end. They had to do that for me on the Honda software that I had ordered with mine.

Scanning the scene, because that's all there is.
I got my boy to drop off my brand new Foxwell NT530 to my Quarantine hotel (I have just returned from 3 months OS)
A man needs something to fiddle with whilst in 14 days isolation, so I set about loading the software package and updates.
First off, register with Foxwell,
Then, download their updating "Tool", install as directed and reboot the laptop to ensure everything is neatly tucked into bed.
Start the software, then register your unit within the Foxwell tool, "FoxAssist", use the ACTIVATE button.
About now, wonder what you did wrong, because literally, nothing happens.
Some guys have experienced some trouble at this stage, so did I.
So, I re read the instructions, followed them, updated the unit, mixed in an unplug and reboot or two, then voila, a new choice in the scanner menu "Porsche" it proudly proclaims!
The software had fully loaded no problem! Cant wait to get near the car to try it out!
just like a GPS....but orange.

Initially, I could not get the unit to find updates. The unit appeared to already have a version of Porsche software loaded. Turns out, tool was not activating for me as it said it was already activated. Finally support reset it which allowed me to activate and download the newest software releases.
Since then, I’ve diagnosed 2 codes and successfully removed them on C4S.

Got the NT530, going through the same issue around no updates/downloads available after Activating the scanner (did so by typing in the serial # in the app). Waiting on support to get back to me to "reset" the serial so I can activate properly. Finnicky software to say the least.
Mine did come pre-loaded with the Porsche software though, so started looking at some basic settings (change side markers to turn signals, windows down/up via key remote, etc.). I did NOT hit edit on any menu that wasn't obvious what the function was, yet somehow the PAS (alarm) module now thinks my car is an automatic cabriolet, rather than the manual coupe it is. Strange is that the Gateway menu still shows coupe. Nevertheless, I now get both a "depress clutch pedal" and "depress brake pedal" (it thinks it's an automatic) when trying to start. Also can't lock the car at all - I'm sure the alarm module is just confused or looking for the non-existent convertible top or something. If I try to edit back to Coupe/Manual, I get a "Negative responses Key:33" error which is a generic security access denied message. So seems like the car won't let the Foxwell adjust those settings. Well how did they change in the first place??
EDIT - got the software updated & was able to reprogram the PAS module. Seems silly that software preloaded on a device made in 2020 still needs an update to work properly with a 15 year old platform. Just happy to be able to lock the car again!
