Dear Porsche classic.



There is currently a lot of excitement about the new PCCM Plus from the 996 community. As much as I love my 997, I must admit, I have infotainment envy when I look at the new functionality this system brings to 986 and 996 models. Rumor has it that the 997 will be joining the Porsche Classic program within the next couple of years. Rumor also has it that Porsche Classic has a PCCM Plus in development for the 997. To that end, I really would like to have this new infotainment system in my car however, I would not buy the system if it is the same as what is currently offered to the 996 community. With a few minor but important changes I believe you would gain a lot of 987 and 997 customers including myself.



Features the 997 PCCM Plus must have in addition to what already exists in the 996 PCCM Plus

• Trip computer with existing 997 functionality
• Existing gauge cluster information center functionality (Turn by turn, artist and song name etc)
• Illuminated volume and tuner *****
• Audiopilot
• Be capable of using existing built in phone mic and Nav antenna (an adapter to integrate would be fine)
• White illumination
• Car settings, speed limit warnings, door lock etc
• Built in amp like the 996 PCCM Plus (more power would be nice too)
• Same start up screen as current PCM2.1 unit
• USB, Aux, Phone jack unit that is a direct replacement for the CD holder in the glove box
• Bluetooth

Nice to have features

• Wireless Apple CarPlay
• Back up camera plug in capability
• Voice Recognition capability
• Sports Chrono functionality
• Current voice selections for nav

Willing to give up

• CD Changer functionality
• External trunk mounted amp functionality

Potential 997 PCCM Plus customer

Unless it has all of the functions of a top-of-the-line aftermarket head unit with plug-and-play installation that works with our existing controls, then it will be nothing more than a dusty box sitting on a shelf somewhere in a Porsche warehouse.

I'm not willing to pay the stupid pricing that the owners of the earlier cars are paying unless this thing is amazing.

I just Installed a Kenwood unit along with the MOST adapter. I'd gladly swap back to "OEM".

This thing has been on my radar for years now. For me, I think it’ll be the last piece of the puzzle to complete my 997.1 Turbo. It’ll really clean up the interior from all those buttons and as an Apple fan, having CarPlay would be unreal. I’ll echo the sentiments of others though and say I’d be disappointed if it was just a clone of the 996 version.

The main things I’m hoping for over the 996 version:

1. Wireless CarPlay

2. Eliminate the need for a half-baked install of the extraneous items:

a. I don’t want a NAV nub sticking on my full-leather dash.

b. I don’t want to drill an aux/usb port hub into the dash cubby under the PCCM. If absolutely necessary, design it to be installed in glove box or rear center console.

c. I don’t want a mic wire stuck to my steering wheel column or A-pillar. (Does the 997 have a pre-existing mic that the new PCCM can be tapped into?)


All these extra wires and boxes adds up to be a really aftermarket-cluttered look in a really timeless interior. I would imagine it only makes sense for Porsche to find a more elegant solution for all this stuff as the target demo who’d want to buy an “OEM look” PCCM will want... an OEM look.

One other question pops into my mind, but it’s not terribly important. I’d prefer a black housing for the new PCCM (like the 997.2) but I’m wondering if Porsche will offer the unit in black or lava grey, to match the rest of the 997.1’s lower dash stack ie: AC controls and seat warmers etc.

It’ll be interested to look back on this thread in a couple years and see how things turned out! Porsche, are you reading this? Let’s hope for the best!

Why wait, based on the 996 version it looks to be more of the same and there are aftermarket solutions for half the cost.

I have the Kenwood - don't care that it's not OEM. The 997 is truly the last drivers Porsche (still have to to turn your lights off) but having wireless carplay and a backup camera is a huge upgrade. Being able to stream music is a must have and a no brainer. Just do it and don't worry about the purist OEM its the small things in life that make you happy.

I’m not aware of any mainstream car manufacturer that has Wireless CarPlay in their cars. So I’d safely assume that it won’t be there. But the ability to reuse factory mic and gps would be very useful, in addition to all the other useless functions PCM2.1 had. Given that I’m already pampered with wireless CarPlay and multifunction controls, I don’t think I’ll be shopping for a replacement anytime soon..

BMW has done it for awhile. Porsche has it now on their current vehicles

PCCM+ has been a grand slam for 996 and 986 owners. We 996 owners have the problematic first run of MOST based systems. Lots of problems! This is a breath of fresh air and it's an OEM unit. That's important for people that want to retain the factory look and finish of their cars. IMHO, the problem with the aftermarket radios is that they look cheap with their bezels - like someone hung a miniature flat panel display on a wall. The factory PCCM+ fits perfectly and the ***** and buttons surround the display and the bezel matches the factory finish. This is important for 997.1 and 987 people with the silver metallic finish. Yes, it's expensive, but isn't everything on these cars? You can buy the PCCM+ for around $1200 and that not crazy considering what Porsche wants for other parts. Heck, our Litronic headlight enclosures are now $3,000+ each. I guess that's better than the 993 ... their headlight enclosures are over $4,000 each.

I'll bet you, Porsche will introduce a 997/987 version in the next few years, maybe sooner if the PCCM+ becomes a big seller.

I dont think this thread is about alternatives. Im pretty happy that they exist but the feedback is so patchy that Id much rather wait for PCM classic like 996.

I emailed Porsche about a 997 version and got a vague “we’re planning on it” response. I think we’ll see something in the next year or so. I’d be willing to pay a bit more for OEM assuming it retains all the factory functions (remembering my AC settings, etc.). I know it sounds silly, but that stuff is important to me.

Theyre charging ca 1600 EUR for it in EU (for 996). Just FYI - so lets say it will be 1500-1700 USD give or take?
