PCM 3.0 Integrated Wireless CarPlay/ Android Auto
Just had this retrofitted using the existing PCM 3.0 so it retains the functionality for making calls using the superior mics built into the car and all other Porsche functions I.e key memory, trip info, maps, etc.
The kit also allows for the installation of front and rear cameras, I have installed a reversing camera which comes on when reverse is selected both in normal PCM mode or CarPlay. It also overlays a distance graphic and moving guide lines as seen on newer cars.
On an iPhone set up the phone through settings>accessibility>touch>Bluetooth, this is usually set to auto. This enables the phone to send all calls direct to the PCM whilst using either the CarPlay or the PCM telephone function. The kit mic is then only used for Siri, so I have this installed out of sight on the bottom of my steering wheel cowling.
The touchscreen takes a little getting used to as it’s not slick like a modern day device, but it does work. You can also use all the PCM buttons to control CarPlay I.e volume, skip tracks etc.
Maps are clear and legible, waze works in dashboard allowing you to see speed limits for a road.
Set your expectation to accommodate the native resolution of the PCM and you won’t be disappointed.

I am in the UK and bought it from NM Automotive, this a new product that is not yet listed on their website. I paid £530 delivered as I had to pay 20% VAT (sales tax equivalent). Email Nick and I’m sure he will respond with a $ price and shipping.

I have no association with NM, just a customer and the first to have it installed so have had lots of contact with Nick.
I had it professionally installed as I had a reversing camera added as well. It similar to the PCM 3.1 install (see YouTube for the many videos [auto amateur]) except the internal ribbon cables on the PCM 3.0 have literally no margin for error.
The kit is top quality, even the WiFi antenna is flat and unobtrusive, unlike some of the other kits which have spikes coming out the back.
The interface / setup menus are also very Porsche like rather than some of the other kits which look more native android.
Best

Very cool - thanks for posting this. I've been looking for something like this. I have an 09 997.2 with PCM3 without the USB/Audio/IPOD input kit and playing music through a radio tuner interface.

Craig,
Thanks for the post. Do you have any pictures of what came in the kit? I emailed the company so hopefully I will hear back soon.

Here is a pic although not very detailed.
box of tricks (brains of the system)
wiring harness from pcm to the box
circuit board and 2 ribbon cables for inside the pcm
usb socket
composite inputs. X2 for front and reverse camera
mic (which I have mounted under the steering wheel)
antenna that is flat and looks like a small ice cream stick
Here is a link to the fact sheet from NM Automotive

This system needs an aux input, if you don’t have one it can be retrofitted but needs to be coded by an OPC.

Well that was super quick. I heard back from them and it is 425 pounds for the unit and 35 pounds for shipping to the USA. Or about $575+$47 dollars.

I had written Nick early after @whacko77uk brought this option to RL's attention in another thread, and he was extremely responsive.
Undecided if I'm going to do as I am on CPO right now and would rather not void my PCM's warranty. Also, while not perfect, the Bovee 1000 is working really well for me.
We'll see...the manufacturer seems like a stand-up guy and it's clear that a lot of thought and detail has gone into this kit. If it weren't for my CPO warranty, the check would have been written a while ago.

This is awesome. Maybe it’s time to do this along with the SSD swap.

Question regarding the backup camera: did your installer use a BT or a wired one? I installed a BT camera that was part of the license plate frame in a E320 CDI a few years back. It was slow to "turn on" once engaging reverse. It worked OK. There are many times in my 997 I wish I had a backup camera so this is great!
Finally someone has cracked the PCM 3.0! Yet another 'mod' I want/need to do! If only I had told Santa about this before Xmas
I find streaming Spotify, etc. using my Bovee 1000 in my car the sound quality is so much better. I like this idea using Android Auto/Car play and mirroring my phone VS messing with it to find tracks, etc. while driving.

I have a 2013 981. Been waiting to add the back-up camera. NAV maps are way out of date, but the price for new ones seems way high. My car has Voice Command obviously with an internal mic. Probably a question for Nick, but would my Voice Command (mic) integrate?
Same question on camera: BT or wired?
I'll keep my eye on this. Guessing it will eventual get across the pond.
