Who thinks of what grade of engine oil to use on a car before even buying the car? LOL. Usually, I just think about what mods I’m gonna do to it…clear side markers, shifter, stuff like that, but even that’s after I’ve already gotten the car, but what oil or additives to use? Double LOL. Please buy a 997 and then you can test 10W-60 or 10W-20 and any other experiments you can think of and report back.

The oil pump is a positive displacement pump so crankcase vacuum will have no effect

C'mon, everyone knows the 997.2 is the last true 911

So I'm replying to an oil thread because I'm drunk and bored. Point of reference. 2008 q7 225,000 miles and counting. 2008 bmw 535xi, 250,000 miles and counting. 2016 Macan S, 170,000 miles and counting, 2009 911 54,000 miles, 2004 Ford excursion 260,000 miles.

The oil I use? Whatever Walmart sells.

How can you possibly drive that many cars that many miles? I never drove any of my Porches more than a few thousand miles per year. Same for all my other vehicles and Harley. Whats the deal?

You have a point. Where I live, WM sells 5 qt. Jugs of Castrol Edge 5W-40 (which is a Porsche A40 approved oil) for $25.

I have too many children and my wife drives 40k miles per year. Work and visiting kids.

Bought a new Macan in sept 2015. In the summer of 2020 had 155,000 miles. Went to trade it in and they offered me less than $10,000 so I kept it.

Yeah. I should clarify I do oil changes at least every 10,000 miles and sometimes as early as 7500 miles and I use only manufacturer approved oils. So it has been Castrol or mobil 1 for the Porcshes and Audi's and BMW. The others get either motorcraft synthetic blend or super tech full synthetic.

FCP Euro is selling DI40, DT40, and DT50. I personally haven't used this company but their "lifetime replacement" applies to everything they sell including oil; so after each oil change you can just send it back for replacements and all it will cost you is return shipping. If you're focused on minimizing the cost of oil this may be your best bet.

Driven is running a special right now for 15% off when purchased directly from them (www.drivenracingoil.com). Use code SEMA15 which is valid from 11/2-11/7

Just bought 2 cases (1 DI40 -- winter/spring, and 2 XP9 - late spring summer) and a case of their DCT, just an hour ago...I logged in to post the link, but you beat me to it! :-) I've never seen this stuff for sale. I'm going to use it, so might as well save some money!
