It can happen to any car….

I just store mine for the winter here in the great white north. With salt being like cancer and bore score problems due to cold starting, it just isn't worth the risk.

Yep crossed a bridge joint at about 85 mph 20 minutes into our return trip.and it exploded. Went to put the spare on and it wouldnt clear the upgraded brakes. Had to tow it to a tire shop.and fit a correct.size but mismatched tire for the 6 hour drive home. Bought a different spare wheel, mounted the new tire to it and that's now my spare.

Congrats on the warranty !!
My sisters 330i toasted after she ignored the CEL warning and tried to make it home.
My wifes X3 water pump died Saturday on the way to the beach for a week, stranding us 3 hours (2 hrs of stop-n-go traffic on the interstate) from home with another three to go. Luckily the engine was OK.
Had to tow it to the local dealership and then rent a car at the airport (with all the airport taxes included) for the week. What an adventure.
Shhiit happens.
I get worried at times when my 997 sounds like a bucket of bolts on start up - but life is too short. If it goes I can build it back better.

Dunno - exaggerating a little. 997 owners are paranoid a little I guess. Sometimes no noise really. Other times makes me wonder. Goes away quickly. Sometimes ticking for a minute or so - the usual ticking. My trusted indy said it sounds normal. 75,000 miles. Daily driver since 2007.

YMMV is underscored by these experiences. I have had the complete opposite in regard to the above mentioned brands. Between my Cayenne S/ 997.2 and my N55/S50 bimmers the Porsche(s) have been much more needy with repairs and up keep. Knocking on wood here..
I was never a fan of buying these extended plans in the past but will heavily consider it in the future. Joined in with my in-laws as they purchased a new Highlander Hybrid yesterday. The real salesman was the closing guy that offered all the coverage plans, it was hard to listen to. He did however make a good point when he held up his ipad and asked "do you think this will be working in ten years because this is what you are buying?". After talking him to 50% off they bought the warranty that he could not call a warranty, technically extended coverage. So much lawyer driven nomenclature!
Anyway, glad you were covered! Knock on wood for all of us because I think all modern vehicles are in the same high dollar catastrophic repair risk category now, not just German.
Sorry for the resurrection, just noticed dates!
