Default Rennline EXACTFIT MAGNETIC PHONE MOUNT

I recently broke down and purchased the Rennline Exact Fit iPhone 13 Pro Magnetic Mount for my 997.1.

I was afraid the magnet would be too weak and I was right! There is no way my phone will stay put with my current Mous case and not go flying into floorboard the second I pull out of driveway!

I really wanted a ProClip but expensive and backordered.

what have others done?

Ack! I can't imagine having to use one of those phone clamp jobbies. I swapped out the magnet mount part on the Rennline for a visually identical magnetic charging base which has a short pigtail cable running down to the footwell socket. I use a MagSafe case and my phone sticks to it nicely even under enthusiastic circumstances.

If you adhere the metal disk to the back of your phone, and then add a protective case, that’ll weaken the magnetic grip for obvious (spacing) reasons.

What I did was adhere the disk to the outside back of the protective case itself, then you’ll have a strong grip.

You are correct, it will not hold your phone while doing anything other than sitting in your garage. I emailed the company after I got mine to return it and they convinced me that they had done through testing and it would work, it does not... Ended up throwing it away and eating the cost and ordered the Spiegel mount and went to the hardware store and picked up a machine screw to attach it to the Spiegel mount. It is a quality product, and does hold my phone while I'm cruising around. It is also attractive even though they do have a small logo on the product. The only challenge is getting everything tight since I chose not to remove the side panel for easier access. Had a right angle screw driver in the toolbox that allowed me to get it tight while still installed. Not the cheapest solution, but much better if you actually return the rennline mount.

I might try to modify this RAM Mount to work with the Rennlist Mount. The problem is this has the male ball on back, not the clamp.

Just to make sure we're all on the same page... we're talking about this one, correct?

Because I have zero issues with it holding an iPhone XR during canyon-carving on bumpy-roads, track-days, etc.

Now for a strong grip, the metal pad must have direct contact with the magnet (physics) -- any air gap will cause a dramatic reduction in grip. For example, if you put the metal pad inside a protective case, just that small gap (of a few mm) will definitely cause a big reduction in grip.

But if you adhere the metal pad on the outside of your protective case (on the back), so it has direct contact with the magnet, then you'll have a secure grip.

Extra medal pads are inexpensive if you buy a pack of them (less than $1 each)...

The original renline mount was very strong if you used the metal plate they provided, mine was inside a case and still stayed in place. This metal plate however will prevent you from being able to use the wireless induction charging. They released an updated version and you can buy just the 'head' to replace the original. That is the one that isn't strong enough to hold the phone. In order to maintain the induction charging capability, and not drop your phone into the passenger footwell, you will need a better option. Based on another member's recommendation, I bought the Spiegel mount and adapted it to fit the bracket that came with the original renline and it works perfectly. To adapt it to work, you just need to use the ball from the Spiegel mount and obtain a machine screw that will fit into it so you can mount it to the renline mount.

The Rennline mount was in my car from the previous owner. Yes it was not strong enough to hold my phone. I brought the Spiegel mag safe mount and replaced the head of the Rennline with the Spiegel. It works fantastic. There's a thread here about doing this mod.

I had the Rennline magnetic mount for my 997.2, the one where you stuck a thin steel plate on the back of your existing case. It worked fine.

Then I got a iPhone 13.

Thing is, as much as I hate it, the Apple "MagSafe Case" is made to work perfectly with licensed MagSafe holders. And they do work.

What I found was some other brand at Best Buy of licensed "Mag Safe" holder which easily fit on the existing ball of the Rennline mount. It works very well. I don't remember the brand, but it wasn't terribly expensive. The "MagSafe" case has a circular magnetic area and a tab that points down and aligns it. Works with either passive or charging base.

Yeah, it is a few bucks more, but it works.

I have this one on my Rennline mount, and it has been very reliable with my iPhone 12.

I need to get this for my RAM mount. Didn't know they had a snap kit for the iPhone 13 Pro. Thanks

It’s not the fault of the phone holder, it’s your case.

Get a case made with MagSafe in mind.

I've got the rennline mount in both of my GTSs.

It works great... wish I would have bought them years ago!

We're running Pixel phones with the metal plates inside the cases.

Is there also a permanent mount, like the Rennline one, that sits higher (vents area?). I got an ESR Magsafe charger that's currently connected to the vents, but don't want to be stressing the vents long term.
