Intro: New-to-Me 997.2 (Also Rattle Help)
Just picked up my very first Porsche, and it is my dream body style. A 2009 Carrera S with the Beige/Peanut Butter? interior. Metallic Gray exterior.
I live in Evansville, Indiana (Not best roads, salty in winter, etc) but I am determined to have fun in this car. Picture attached. I will get more after first bath and when winter storm Elliot goes away!
I come from the GM world (Z06/CTS-V) and MB ('12 C63) world, and this Porsche is by far THE MOST FUN and most responsive vehicle I have ever driven!
My family is originally from Germany and they moved to the states in '84. My whole family besides by parents and brother all still live there. So I got this car to be connected, lol!
Previous owner took very good car with dozens of service records left in the vehicle. It has 70k miles and drives like it has 20k.
*My only complaint is the rattle in the back. I had it on a lift and inspected everything and noticed a few items that may be the culprit.
1) I took the lower cover off and the 'bump stops' that sit to the sides of the trans mount were disintegrated and fell down in pieces.
I am going to order FF inserts to alleviate some noise potentially. Would this cause a rattle over bumps if those 'pads' were gone?
2) The car has Ohlins R+T coil overs and I cant figure out if they use the OEM strut mount that may be worn out at this time (even small bumps its metallic rattle).
3) Lower mounts for the struts (rear) are cracked almost all around and the center sleeve is basically pushed down to the lower portion. Can this cause rattle?)
Other than that, it has the full RSS adjustable link kit, RSS solid motor mounts (I just removed and will go for sale), Ohlins, PASM delete, Cargraphic sport mufflers, sharkwerks bypass, BMC filters.
I've been lurking around this forum and there is tons of awesome and helpful information! Maybe one day I'll meet some local Porsche enthusiasts.

I will drop the rear a little for sure.
All the rss stuff is on except the motor mounts. It drones really bad and vibrates in the cab with solid mounts. Now it’s so quiet inside. Still stiff enough
I just need this rattle gone !!

Welcome and it seems like you might have found the culprit with the rear Ohlins strut mount.
Speaking of Ohlins, RIP to Stig Pettersson

Very nice. I think there's another word for peanut butter interior although your description works just fine for me. I think the other one that's used is sand beige but don't hold me to it.
As for the rattle in the back you describe, I don't have a clue what it may be other than somehow perhaps related to the coilover conversion. I say that since I'm on my third 997 and never had anything like that. My current GTS has just over 70K miles on it now and is as tight and rattle free as it was when I bought it with 20,500 miles on the clock.
I have H&R springs and after market wheels with custom offsets but no other suspension alterations. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Hope you find the source of the rattle. But above all, enjoy your new ride. I bet good money you won't get tired of it. Nice find with a car in that condition with what sounds like good maint. records too.

Congrats on the new car - looks great.
I have full RSS Tarmac Stage 2 setup also. Check the fasteners for the rear dog bones and those for the sway bar drop links. I thought my rear upper mounts were the cause of my rear end clunk and replaced them with Tarett monoballs to match the front setup, only to find the foam on top in great shape and the noise still there. Then found a loose bolt on one of the dog bones and on the sway bar drop link at the bar. Noise is now gone. I have OEM rear top mounts in great shape I'll sell for half new ones if you want to replace yours.
I also have the RSS mounts , but maybe with the PDK trans a lot more NVH is transmitted than with the manual, as.i love mine and don't have that drone issue you describe, even with an extra supercharger on the motor.
