Default Tire Recommendations?? LOW Inventory

Need new rears on the Targa. 295 35 18s. And Holy Cats is the inventory awful.
No Bridgestone Potenzas in stock. No Mich PSS. No Mich PS2s. No Goodyear Eagle F1.
The Conti Extreme Contacts do not work on this vehicle.
Bridgestone RE-71 RS looks like a challenge in the wet. - Anybody driven these? Comments?
Same with Yokohama Advans AO52

Pirelli Zero Rosso are available - Anybody have experience with these?
Yokohama Advan Neovas same - Any experience?
Other suggestions?
Driving style is spirited. Nothing crazy. No comp / track.

Thanks much in advance.

Both the RE-71rs and A052s are aggressive for street tires, and would likely be a struggle in the cold and wet. Looks like the issue is specifically with that size, as TireRack has a lot more options when looking for a 295/30/19.

I run 235/40-18 and 285/35-18 MPS4S tires.

They always seem to be in stock.

I run Nitto Invo on my 997, 2 928s, and 944 S2 and love them I'll keep buying them as long as they keep making them.

Check Discount Tire Direct, eBay, Summit Racing, and Jegs for the sizes you need.

Is there any reason you’re against the 285/35-18 MPS4S?

The MPS4S is superior to the PSS.

They also run wider than most other tires. As an example according to the specs they are only 0.3” less tread width than the Conti Sport in 295/35-18.

Thats a 2% difference in tread width… hardly noticeable at all.

Any 200TW tire isn’t going to be great on the street, especially in Florida where torrential downpours are common.

Can you expand on "The Conti Extreme Contacts do not work on this vehicle"? I run EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 PLUS on my 997.2 C4S Cab (295/35ZR18 on the rear, 235/40ZR18 on the front) and I love them. I had them on my 997.1 too.

I just bought some yokohama advan apex v601, so far they've been great!

Edit: NVM I don't think they come in 295 width for 18" wheels

Its probably because all seasons aren’t really preferred in the South when you can run summers.

I run summer tires all year round here in Central TX.

Ok, that makes more sense. I automatically thought of a fit issue, I didn't think about weather.

The advan nevoas are good tires. I have used them in the past. I also thought they looked really sexy. IDK why. The tread pattern looked good. I have a friend who will go to great lengths to keep running them even if they are low stock/out of stock temporarily. In any case, they were good tires in SoCal for 18s.
I have had good experiences with PZero tires but I haven't run the Rossos. However, with Pirelli PZero, Advan Nevoa, Hankook (RS3, RS4), Nitto NT05, and Dunlop Star Specs, I have had all good experiences for 18s on a daily that gets some track use but it mostly for canyons and to/from work with rain a few times a year max (temps between 50f low and 110f high).

This isn't the question but all I have ever run on 19s is Michelin Pilot Sport and PS4S...

First let me say that the Conti people have been great dealing with my issue. Props to them. No hesitation.

I got the same EC DWS 06 you have, for the 997.2 Targa. True, they are quieter than the Potenza RE050A's. A little softer riding as well. That's ok with me. But they are really 'squirmy'. Not soft - this is type of a tracking issue. And this is not an alignment / set up issue, unless the Conti's require some odd toe-in numbers.

On even a slightly rutted surface (older highway, high-volume surface street), the Conti's track fine...until you find one side of the groove. Then they grab, almost like a stiff gust of wind from 90 degrees to the side. This is most evident at 60 - 80 mph, but true at any speed. They track fine on great road. Not on anything else for me. Somebody else might describe the feel as 'loose'.

The turn-in is very different from the RE050A's. Less linear. Less predictable. At constant speed, the turn in is less responsive at first but it comes on quickly when the tire reacts. Turning under braking is another matter. I find the rear end feels very light as the turn begins. Again, as the grip comes in, it bites hard. This upsets the balance for me. It's Not confidence inspiring. I've done no aggressive maneuvering at speed. So I can't comment there. But a slower velocity, the grip seems ok in a hard turn. Can't really tell, but I don't think the performance at limit is bad.

Obviously YMMV. I'm glad you've had a different experience as the Conti US people seem great.

Thanks for the suggestion / your comments. I've got nothing against the 4S. But I was trying to stay with a 35 aspect ratio. The 4S is only available in a 30.

Nice excuse to go for 19" wheels maybe?
