Default Can't decide: my first Porsche

Hi all, I've been a long time lurker and have found so much great info on this and other forums. Appreciate all the knowledge that is shared.

In order to quell my midlife crisis, I've decided to buy my first Porsche, a 997.1 C2S MT Cab. I've zeroed in on 997.1 due to pricepoint. I am presently deciding between the following two models which are priced within a grand of each other, both below $40k:
  • '06 GT Silver over Special Cocoa Full Leather, black top
    • 45k miles
    • Sport Chrono Plus
    • Limited service history but new coils, plugs, and front tires 5k miles ago, 3 or 4 owner
    • Private Seller sale
    • Carrera Classic wheels with mismatched tires F/R
  • '08 Meteor Gray over Special Cocoa Full Leather, black top
    • 88k miles
    • no Sport Chrono, but has PASM
    • 1 owner, always dealer serviced
    • TURBO WHEELS with new tires
    • Dealer sale w/ "30-day warranty"
Both are very well optioned cars including multifunction steering wheel and Porsche Crests everywhere, and MSRPs were $110k and $107k, respectively. Really the only thing the '08 is missing is Sport Chrono Plus, and I'm not going to track a Cab. Both have minor fender benders on their Carfaxs. '06 had a claim on the passenger door, '08 on the front bumper.

They both have their pros and cons, but I'm leaning towards the '08 for a number of reasons:
  1. I will need to change the wheels on the '06, as I just don't care for the Carrera Classics. I'd either go Turbo or Sport Classics. I'd also need to match the rear tires to the front as I'm a bit **** like that.
  2. The fact that the current owner put Pirellis on the front, when he had Michelins on the back shows to me that he may be a miser. Who doesn't match tires? This leads me to wonder about the level of care the car has seen.
  3. 2008 is newer.
What am I missing?

Below are pics for reference.

No matter which one you pick, full PPI with DME results (if manual) Borescope inspection.

I personally would want to buy from a private seller over a dealer and at 1/2 the miles that would be my choice to start my PPI process.

I should have mentioned in my OP that I will procure a full PPI with DME on anything I buy.

Thanks for your insight - half the miles does make a difference. I'm just used to "one owner cars" being intrinsically more valuable, especially at this age.

Good choice going with Manual Transmission. As posted above get thorough PPI and Bore Scope Inspection.
Enjoy the hunt!

First one. Silver over cocoa is an amazing combo. Full
leather is a must. Plus 40k less miles to me makes it a no brainer.

PPI and borescope them buy it. Tires are cheap in big scheme of things.

Good idea to try driving a 2009 -2012 Boxster before pulling the trigger on the 997.1 cabrio. Still has a flat 6, but without the additional risk that the 997.1 will have. It's lighter too, which adds to the convertible experience.

Get the 06 with half the miles. Sport Chrono doesn't matter in a manual. Does either have full leather (stitched leather door tops and dash) as that makes a big difference how they feel inside. Don't worry about the wheels as a nice sert.odnused, forged aftermarket wheels will look better and perform better than either sets on the cars. Cocoa is a gorgeous interior color. Does either car have hardback sport seats as that's another big one.

Second the sports chrono doesn't matter in a manual. I think I would actually prefer the dash without it. I don't track the car. Standing by for spears :-)

Boxster doesn't compare to 997.1 - Boxter like a women's go kart but not as fun.
Proper PPI & Bore scope prevents many issues down the road.

Have you ever driven a 987.2 Spyder? Mid-engine, lightweight, just enough power, and a wonderful suspension. Fabulous cars.

Sounds like they've somewhat evolved since the 2000 model I owned for about 20 minutes after driving it home from LA. I'm not plugged into the Boxster market so I should keep my mouth shut.
But I would imagine the Cayman would be a lot closer to the 997 performance.
.......Whatever the case, IMO 997 continues the 911 pedigree w/looks/style/performance and why I like them and I assume why OP is looking..

I like the 08 in the darker grey with Cocoa interior. The miles are a bit of a bummer but single owner and dealer service history is a big plus.

The 06 with mis matched tires is a red flag as far as maintenance goes.

PPI & Borescope.

I drove a Turo rented 718 Boxster S with PDK in the Topanga Canyons outside of Malibu a few years ago.

Even with the PDK and non-modified it was a hoot.

Was sally easy to drive fast quickly, felt at home in it in a few hours.

Not plugged into either the Cayman or the Boxster market either. Mostly because I like the 911 variations but also because at 6'3" I don't fit in either the Cayman or the Boxster. I've had both as loaners from the dealership and "cramped" would be an understatement no matter how much time I spent trying to adjust the seats. Just not enough room behind the seats.
