Lots of opinions on this one. I have a 997.1 C2 and I love the ride and handling balance, but it sits too high. I'm willing to lose a bit of ride quality but want to 1)preserve/better my handling and 2)not stress my suspension/components (ie, lowering springs don't feel like the move). What are some current options that people favor?
Eibach just lowers the car. Their pro kit didn't feel any different to me but that is subjective. The stance seems to mimic OEM but is lower. I have used Eibachs on every car I have ever had from an 85 Civic Dx I drove in college to my current 997. Here are 2 pictures of how it looks on OEM wheels with 15mm spacers added:
I think if I could go back in time, i would just run 10mm spacers all around just because I prefer the wheels a bit sunken rather than directly flush with the fender...but this is also subjective. I would argue that you will want spacers once you lower your car because the wheels will LOOK like they have a higher offset even if they do not once the car is lower.
997.2 - the PO put on 15mm spacers all around and BC Racing coilovers. The ride height is adjustable so I matched it to my lowest place, which was my driveway. I went a tad stiffer in the damper but has been good for the 1 year i have owned this car.
Coilovers are the best way to do it as the shocks are designed to work throughout the range of travel of the coilovers. Lowering springs work, but not as well from a driving and suspension dynamics perspective.
Ohlins / Bilstiens are good for these cars. The BC Coil overs are a good entry level coil over at a great price.
You have seen my cars on H&Rs, I think the H&Rs are paired well with PASM but are a bit much for the base suspension. I am leaning towards the BCs on the Non-PASM car.
For those of us with base (non-PASM) suspension the BC Racing Coilovers are a fantastic option. I've been running mine for close to two years with no complaints or issues. For the price I think they're hard to beat and you can set the ride height to your taste, something that lowering springs don't allow.
Base non PASM here. I have developed some suspension noise and will probably freshen up all the way around regardless of the squeaking parts. This is a non track weekend car for me, how is the ride on the BC coilovers? The stock ride is a little mushy imho, but I really want to avoid a harsh experience.
I have BC's, and yeah for the price point I'm happy with them too, my car did not have PASM, it honestly rides like stock but looks better, a a bit noisier but it doesn't bother me as the exhaust noise drowns it out haha.
Just installed my BC myself saved me about &500. Best bang for non pasm. I also added there extended damper adjuster in the rear for easy access. I have mine at 13 rear 15 front. To me, it feels better ride than stock. I could go lower but my driveway won’t allow it. Maybe get a different driveway, 😂 alignment next.
I am going to stay the outlier here and say that unless you want to really dial your stance in to a custom degree that goes lower than Eibach or H&R springs allow, I would still go with lowering springs...but that is my opinion. I wanted to be able to further align and corner balance my car over what was available from just springs, so I went for the OEM GT3 suspension, which is just Bilsteins. I am positive the B16 Damptronics are just as solid a choice. I am not knocking BC, I just do not have experience with them. If you plan to do way more adjusting, that seems like a route a lot of people are happy with.
