Might be interesting to see what the (road) taxes are for our toys in several places...

so around 8k to get number plates... and then a yearly 2.8k

Pennsylvania Gas tax (road tax): $00.61.1 per gallon - this is in addition to the federal gas tax of $00.65.5 per gallon. Gas is as low as $3.39 per gallon (3.78 liters) locally.
number plates: included in the registration fee - however if you want vanity plates (Personalized Plates) onetime fee of $75.00.

yearly road tax : $380. WA passed a large tax to build light rail. Without this would be close to $100 but I have vanity plates.

Used to live in the UK, and there your car is taxed based on emissions. This blew my mind. Nevermind the annual inspection.

-Seattle/King County has one time 10.5% sales tax on Vehicle purchases. So when you buy your car you pay 10.5% of purchase cost to register it.
-Gaoline Tax is $1.14 per gallon beginning January 1 2023. ---->This is the highest Fuel Tax in the country.
-Cost to register your car every year for annual License Plate Tabs averages $480/yr if car value is $40,000 - Vanity Plates adds approx $40 to the cost every year

We have NO Emissions Testing which is very pleasant. They did away with it 2 years ago.

Gas tax is 69 cents/gallon state imposed
Emissions test every two years around $70 (which frankly I don't mind as I remember the smog here in the 1970's)

For all that money though the roads are falling apart and an eyesore with trash everywhere. Nothing new has been built in two decades but car pool lanes.

Where I am in SC Registration is $12 per vehicle per year because the cars are so old - 2012 Audi Q5 and 09 Cayenne might be higher but all the other Porsches are $12 with the next newest ones being my 2 05 997s and the other 4 older than those. No idea what portion of my taxes go to road maintenance.
