how do these wood ones attach? Do they get loose overtime? do you end up having to break the circle ring around the leather in order to fit this (ie is it reversible to OEM)?

As I recall, you can remove the plastic collar from the shift boot by turning the shift boot inside out and then you twist a locking ring. All reversible.

Most attach by a sleeve and then are secured by allen screws. Here's a photo from another thread.

Of course, you can go the homemade route and arrive at something like this, which is just a friction fitment, but has yet to come loose after 2.5 years.

Here's mine. I'm considering putting the stock back on but the previous owner lost it.

Just fitted a weighted Black Forest Industries **** in Alcantara, definite improvement in shifting which I think will get better again once i've upgraded the engine mounts

Mine was rather worn so I found a perfect replacement on eBay for about 1/3 of what a new one would be. I like the stock ****’s feel. I especially don’t like metal ***** in the cold or very hot—I find them unpleasant to touch in extreme weather.

I reverse engineered a 992 pdk shift **** in order to make it fit my 997 tip. Not an oem solution but it's an oem part. Plus with what I have learned about it means I can modify it to levels that porsche don't offer.
Looks and feels much better than the oem 997 option and the aftermarket wooden ball options imo

Tiptronic owners need not keep silent in topics like this anymore 😂
