Sadly had an accident 2 weeks ago and the appraisal came back as totaled. I was afraid of this outcome as I dearly love the 997.2 platform and it was the color I wanted inside and out. I had faint hope since all the damage was on the front but the appraiser said it would essentially have to be rebuilt from the firewall forward.

I'm still waiting for the insurance company to come up with an estimate on what they'll give me for it but in the meantime I'm trying to look around for a replacement.

What do people think about the 991.1 or 991.2 versus the 997.2?

No chance you try to buy back and rebuild? Are you able to take parts off?

If you go into the 991 world, I would recommend a .2 if you want the turbos and easy power. The styling I personally think looks better in the .2 as well.

But both vehicles will be a world of difference away from the 997.2 If it were me, I would try to get a badass 997.2 like a GTS, turbo, or something special. If I were to go into the 991.2 world, it would be a 4S for me.

Either way good luck. And if you are able to get parts, I am looking for a handful of things. =)

This, there’s a big difference between “not financially viable” for your insurer to repair, and you employing a good quality repair shop to use a secondhand front clip and rebuild the shell, then use second hand parts to keep the parts costs down.
Sure, the car will always have a title, but if you intend keeping it, who cares ?
If you can buy it off your insurer and repair it more cost effectively than they can, you get to keep “your” car.

Sorry to hear about the loss. Fwiw, I went from a 991.2 S (my first 911) to a 997.1S and have not regretted it once. Sure, the 991.2 is a better car in all respects (so they say), but I found a few things very annoying. The pdk was superb, but dull unless in sport mode, but then the exhaust popped artificially on deceleration, no matter how slow you were going. The handbrake was under the dash, very odd. I think depending on options it'll be more expensive to maintain. Mine had dynamic engine mounts which broke within 30k miles and cost $4000 to replace.

If you're a manual lover, I think the T might be closest to your 997.2 but it's still a bigger car. I'd look for a nice 997 turbo if I was in your position.

That's a thought. I'll have to visit a shop nearby that does restorations. I had already thought about making this 997.2 my forever car so the title really isn't an issue. Interior leather needs a refresh (I had already made inquiries to a local upholsterer) anyway.

I recently talked to the son of the former owner of my 2011 C2S 6sp. He recently took possession a brand new 992 GTS 6sp.
He said it just doesn't inspire him like the 997.2 and wants to buy mine. That tells me we have something special.

Within my normal person budget, if my 997.1 got killed, I would be looking at a 718 GTS, which is the same size essentially as the 997. I would look at the 4cyl. and the 4.0 because the 4 banger could be so amazing tuned for more HP/TQ and I miss having turbo nowafter 6 years with the NA 3.8.

I would also look at the 991.2 3.0TT cars because, as mentioned, I kind of miss turbo power. A light tune, exhaust, and some springs would make the car amazing. I even like the base 991.2 C2. If you can find one with PCCB, that would be inane lowered with an exhaust possibly on some BBS wheels. I think about this too much. I don't think the prices are that unreasonable but I wouldn't really be in the market for a new 992 911.

Sorry to hear about your accident. FWIW When my 997.1 was rear-ended/ totaled several years back I decided to stick with the 997 platform due to its desirable size and characteristics. Took the time to find my .2 and have decided to keep it long term- its that great.
So long as you stay with a 911 I'm sure you’ll be happy, but my preference is the 997s.

I would look for a 997.2 Manual....not many out there, will hold their value better long term

If you love the 997 platform and have patience, I’d hold out for another 997.2. If you’re not a 911 snob, I think a 6 cylinder Cayman would be a suitable replacement if you don’t need the rear seats. I think they are more fun than the 911 but people define fun differently. You can spend $30k for a base 987.2 all the way up to a $150k for a 718 GT4. Every 6 cylinder Cayman is a winner in my book and they are much easier to find than a 997.2, especially if you’re looking for a 6MT. 991s are nice but noticeably bigger, both literally and in how they feel and drive, and more refined.

Drive both because only you can decide. I’ve driven 991.1 and 991.2, both manual S models and I prefer the 997. I love the 997 size, sound, and feel. Problem is, manual 997.2 coupes are very hard to find and 95% of them are black, silver, and grey.

Actually, I was wildly incorrect; a quick and very unscientific search of Autotrader reveals 20 2009-2011 Caymans for sale nationwide. Same search for 911 coupes shows 75 for sale. 911s appear to be a dime a dozen compared to the unobtainium that is the Cayman.

No worries---->Market is full of 997.2 PDK Transmission cars in all shapes and sizes..
Just make sure you grind on the insurance company for market/replacement value.
Was the accident your fault?? If not get yourserlf a rental car because liable accident party will fund it.
