It's nice to have a good manual but even nicer to have a good (great) product. Chris has done both.

Really, I don't think I've ever installed anything that put such a big smile on my face. Everyone I've shown it to has been enormously impressed. Need I say more?

You have to get one for the 997.1 Turbo. Europe needs you.

Well, developing this device was not only a lot of fun, it was also a learning experience for me.
It all started with my own car, a 997.2 with a 9A1 engine. Then I found a volunteer who allowed me to doctor around on his 997.1 (M97 engine) and we figured out, that the only thing that was different was how the oil temp was calculated - easy.
Then I found a volunteer with a 987.2 (9A1) and it worked like a charm on this platform, no changes needed.
If we now apply deductive logic, then it should also work on a 987.1 - rrrrrrrright?
Well, it would, BUT Porsche decided in their infinite wisdom to NOT install the same sensors for oil pressure and oil temp as they put into the similar engine in the 997.1. Well, I'm sure it saved them $1 in production costs.

What I want to say is, that I'll never know until I find a (local) Turbo (997.1 & 997.2) owner, who trusts me with his car for a couple hours. The car doesn't even need to have SportChrono. And so far I'm still looking for volunteers...

Ordered, looking forward to being able to see accurate Oil/Water Temps quickly.

I find the 991 Style digital gauge in the GTS very easy to keep an eye on and wanted the same for the 997, this looks like it will fit the bill nicely!

Thanks Chris!

Got my order today and was very impressed by the packaging and effort in the kit. I went about installation and totally completed in about 2.5 hours. I took my time - and was also hindered a little by using the downloaded instructions on my iPhone screen rather than printing out the +40 page document. I had already installed dashcam wiring for power to the fuse panel so I was familiar with the use of fuse taps and the wiring harnesses that are located adjacent to the box. It did take a little fumbling to get enough slack and make room to pull aside the CAN wiring pair and make the tap connections.

I did have 1 little complication. The placement of the 1 A included fuse in the fuse tap in the kit did not match the location shown in the documentation picture. Photos below show the issue. I got my meter out and confirmed the "inner" position lugs of the fuse plug are connected to the exposed spades - and the upper lug of the fuse plug for the "outside" position fuse is connected to the added wire. This confirmed my suspicion that it was just installed in the wrong slot, so I moved it to the outside position and located the 7.5A fuse from the panel into the "inner" position.

Document picture shows 1A fuse in "outside" position and the relocated 7.5A fuse on the "inner" position.

My delivered fuse tap with 1A fuse in the "inner" location.

I did confirm operation per the manual and started the car and ran it for a few minutes to confirm the oil/water temp readings were changing. I'm rid of the gimmicky wart display and won't have to explain it to passengers any more!
I'd certainly give this product a 10/10 stars!

@mbatarga Thanks for the feedback and let me check if I goofed up just once or in general... But I'm very happy to hear that you like it.
Oh and I just noticed that our garages look very similar: A 997 and an air-cooled Targa :-)

@JJT In case you are following this thread then you probably have seen the bad news for you: The reading for the oil temp for the 997.1 Turbo is not the same as for the normally aspirated cars (and seems to be unknown at the moment). That means there is no quick solution for Turbos - Sorry.

So when my dash water temp gauge (which we know is not accurate) shows temp is 175, it's really 188.
Again - this is a great upgrade and the installation instructions are very concise.

And now that oil pressure is also available in that display, it's about as perfect as you can get!!!!

And my measurements are verified by comparing them against Durametric and AIIM Solo

Installed over this weekend, went for a 2hr drive this afternoon, unit worked flawlessly. A quick glance to the side provides accurate temps (interesting to see the deviation in water temps, it may even give you a better warning when the water pump starts to fail)

Very pleased with the gauge and it matches the Digital Android head unit.

My workshop assistant:

One installation Tip:

There is no need in the 997.1 to notch a slot in the Fuse box, the power wire can slip through the slot where the fuse puller tool is located. This way the entire system is fully reversable for those who are concerned with that in regards to resale, etc.
