Default Wheel Bolt - 19mm vs 3/4"

2009 C2S 197K miles

I strive to be different, a contrarian, and always from the cheap seats. For example, I want ceramic with my moly... I do cold oil changes (~gasp~)... I wash my engine with Simple Green ... drive in the snow (with snow tires) ... drive on dirt/sand roads in NJ swamps pursuing a rare bird... heck, I even drive around with hot coffee and loose fitting lids... yea, I am that nuts.

Now here is a shocker: I don't use 19mm sockets on my bolts... nosireee.... I use 3/4"... fits a tad more snuggley. Yea, I am out there. Why? I suspect this will lessen the deformation on the bolt head when I use my impact gun for removal.

Peace

Maybe its the quality of your 19mm socket. 19mm = 0.748in. It should fit more snuggly than a 3/4" socket...
Make sure whatever socket you're using is a 6 point

Ko-ken has special sockets with surface-drive, which only hold on the flanks, see second picture. It's avalable for impact tools as well.

No offense to anyone but Bruce you have to be one of the few people on any forum I read that I would have coffee with, even with a loose lid.

Yea, but I can only have coffee at the hospital coffee shop... they don't let me roam very far.

Peace

they are actually sooo close to each other: 3/4 x 25.4 = 19.05 mm. I’m not surprised Bruce found a better fit with his 3/4” socket though, quick check with my numerous 19mm metric sockets of varying qualities ranged from perfect fit to loosish. My only 3/4” socket was a pretty snug fit but not as good as my best quality metric socket.
Being a metric country where I am, I’m usually struggling to find a metric equivalent to fit the odd SAE fastener that I might not have a SAE tool to fit

Easier and faster to use vice grips. Don’t have to spend money on bunch of sockets and waste time figuring out which one fits.
