997S Horn

997S Horn
I suppose I am jaded from my previous early model 911's, going back to my '73 (yeah, I wish I still had that one!). But I had to honk the horn the other day on my 2005 997S and I couldn't believe it, but it sounds like a GM or Ford horn. Not the shrill two-tone Euro horn sound I expected! Does anyone other there have any info on swapping the OEM horn for horn(s) that have that classic Euro/Porsche horn sound?

With older P cars I have added air horns from Hella if I remember. Someone should make a replacement that would up the anti of these wimpy things cause they do suck really bad.

I don't have a 997 but I do have a 996 and I brought up this same topic last week. Not a lot of responses I got but you can look it up in the GT2/GT3 section, page 2 now, under "Horn upgrade?"
I think some ppl upgrade to air horn which is extremely loud but I don't like it because air horn always have a short delay + I don't want to deal with the extra wirings/tubings and mounting the compressor. So I too have been searching for the right sounding horn. If anybody know/find that German sounding horn, please let me know.
Btw, on the 996 at least, the horn is right next to the center radiator on the passenger side. When I was doing the search on this topic, someone has mentioned these horns get shorted easy because of the exposed location. Sounds logical to me

Has anyone ever tried either of these horns? I agree that our 997 horns sound pretty plain, but I wonder if these fix it: http://www.griotsgarage.com/search.jsp?searchtext=horn
(no affiliation, I just like their stuff)

Sactogreg: I like Griots Garage also. According to http://www.autobarn.net/horns.html the Hella horns have 300 hz and 500 hz frequencies and are 118 db loud. The autobarn also lists a PIAA Euro Sports Horn Kit #85112 with (1) 500Hz Horn and (1) 600Hz Horn. They are said to have a " Higher pitch dual tone sound similar to the most expensive European exotic cars."
So the issues now are 1) whether either of the Hella or PIAA horn sets will fit the 997, and 2) whether their sound is an improvement over the boring stock Porsche sound.
Anybody out there tried either of these types of horns?

Btw, I finally got a chance to reach underneath the horn and confirm one of them is not working. I believe this is not uncommon on the 996 so you guys might wanna double check before buying any upgrades.

one horn not working
heard from the dealer that, no my cayenne S, one of the horns not working is "typical". I am now looking for new horns on my 997. I miss the sound of my older 911 "trumptes"
