Push in on the little wire clip, as pictured here, then pull the connector free.

I don't have a pic, but it's on the left side (driver side) of the intake manifold. You need to reach around and behind the left-side intake snorkel.

Default A Picture

Here is a picture of the plug. You can see the top of the plug in this picture. You need to reach around behind the left-hand intake snorkel. Push the wire clip in, and pull the plug out.

Ray,
On the standard 997S, where is the plug as you look into the engine bay?.Only asking as the photo with the large red arrow seems to be a different plug to that of the first photo. Is the second photo for the X51 fitted car?.Regards, Simon.

The plug on the non-X51 car is just to the right, rear side of the intake manifold. You can easily reach it, as there it nothing in the way you need to reach around.

I can't see how this could harm your muffler - the muffler is effectively by-passed.

I would not disconnect the vacuum hose - that will just cause a vacuum leak, unless you plug it. I've driven my car for over 3000 miles w/o problems or CELs.

wahtever the orange plug is in the picture above is what i disconnected. i think the valve needs that plug to hold it in place when closed or open. i have had 2 muffler failures. i dont think its a coincidence.
