How does the lense for the map light pop out? The manual just shows it coming straight out, but I can't get it to pop loose. Tried prying under the lip at the front of the lense, but couldn't get good leverage and was starting to chew plastic bits up and getting no results.

Default Valentine 1 Dome Light Hardwire Install

Disclaimer: As per previous threads, this is a simple and easy install, but, tapping into the domelight hot wires will cause the detector to turn-off and on when you open or close the doors, for example. If this bothers you, then hardwire to fuse box as per other threads....

A) Remove dome light console by gently popping out 2 remote buttons with a small flathead screwdriver. Two phillips head screws are revealed. Look in manual if you are unsure about this.

B) Remove the screws and gently remove console. The back end will pop off via 2 retainer plugs and sockets by gentle prying. See pic.

C) As per picture: 1) Press fit V1 black wire junction connector in front of sunroof motor, this is a perfect fit. 2) Push excess wires under front headliner, there is plenty of room. 3) Tap into dome light hot, brown wire with white stripe using a 18-22 gauge splicer/tap from Radio Shack. The one from Valentine is too big.

D) Do not use ground associated with sunroof motor, the ground will be interrupted when sunroof is operated. Use hole for dome light console fixation.

E) Run appropriate amount of phone style wire through front of console towards windshield, and button up dome light console

Talking Install Success

Install success just how the directions stated above for self dimming mirrors.

The maroon taps shown in the above picture work great.

I soldered the telephone plug to the fuse and covered with heat shrink wrap, and then I taped into appropriate power wire and ground wires.

Thanks to all for supplying this great information.

Well, another successful install.

Although the wiring bundle seems to be different than depicted--in an 07 997TT there was no clip and PIN identification and there appeared to be two brown wires. I picked one and apparently got lucky because it works.

Here is what I found out with regard to OP step 3:
1) Don't remove the lens (this was where I went astray). It can be removed but it hinges opposite of the housing, i.e. it hinges from the rear and must be pryed off from the front.
2) there are two pry points for the housing and are about 1" away and on either side of the visible slot in the rear.
3) the wire connection are just as OP suggests, although the + power wire was mostly black with a thin orange stripe. Ground was brown.

Thumbs up

First a HUGE thanks to 1080iAddict & Pantera. I used a hybrid of both your install methods to hardwire and install mine. I have a 07' 997 C4S Cab w/ dimming rear view mirror. I was able to remove the map light surround bracket for easier access. The most terrifying part was drilling to make the hole for the DC modular plug! (Hands were shaking & measured 5 times BEFORE drilling!) ;-)
I used the Mouser DC plug & connector parts Pantera recommend and fabricated my V1 cable from the coiled phone cable that came with the V1.

Install looks Factory and is AWESOME!!

Sure thing, you can find Pantera's post on this same postings on page #2 but here's where Pantera listed the Mouser part numbers I also used.

'...I mounted a small black plastic DC power jack (Mouser P/N 163-1060) in the dome light housing. When installed, it is barely noticeable and looks OEM when examined closely. I used male and female spade connectors in the + and - leads just in case I ever need to completely remove the dome light housing again. I then cut the V1 power cord to the appropriate length and soldered a DC power plug (Mouser P/N 1710-0721) on the end of the cord."

Am going to do the installation this weekend, but might go for the wire down the driver's side A-pillar. What is the trick to taking the A-Pillar cover off? Advice is appreciated!

No need to take the a pillar off, just tuck the wire in along the edge. If it's too loose, just make a little loop every once in a while to wedge it in.
