Default Wheel Choice

The question is wheels. If you ordered (or already received) your Carrera S which wheels did you select?

Carrera S (lobster claw)
Carrera Classic
Sport Design
Carrera Sport
non-OEM

Thanks.

Dan

I went with the Carrera CLASSIC wheels on my 997 C2S. I find the S wheels too bulky and "busy."

Mine came with lobster claws. I actually liked them for quite a while, though perhaps just because they were "new 997-cool". However, eventually I started tiring of them, and I put Champion RG5 monolites on, which I really like. Champion has some nice wheel choices. If you are considering non-OEM, plan to swap when the car is delivered, and try to figure out which OEM wheels you'll get the highest trade value on.

Here's my subjective opinion. I like the lobster claws because they're so curvy when viewed from above standing next to the car, and they look great when spinning. Especially on a black car. But different wheels look better on different cars. For example: A white 911 cabrio with a sand interior and a cocoa soft top begs for the sport design wheels. Whereas, the sport design wheels are too busy on a black black 911. The carrera classic wheels seem to look good in all situations, but are not as flashy.

HEY rjmaclean! I got the same lugnut key! WTF? I thought every one was different.

But seriously, how many different "keys" are out there and are there too many to carry around conveniently in your Midnight Auto Parts company car?

I always go with the stock wheels for a car because I'm not much into paying extra for frivolous upgrades invented by marketing geeks. However, with my 997 C4s order I through logic to the wind and ordered exactly what I wanted. I went with the Carrera Classics because I like the clean look and the fact that they should be EASY TO CLEAN! I'm also paying for red calipers in that C4s, so I want to be able to see those puppies very easily (which looks great IMHO). I think rmjaclean's post says it all - that is the best looking wheel I've seen on a 911, and I think it is worth every penny (and the colored crests are a must in my book).

I'd pick the lobster forks. It was part of the overall 997 redesign, and it helps distinguish the 997 from previous generations. plus, they're different than pretty much everything out there, and i think they look great. i would get bored of the classics in no time..

Carrera Sport painted atlas gray to match the exterior. 1/2" wider too....

I gave this much thought but ended uo going with the Carrera Sports. New wheel a little wider in rear and I liked the fact they come standard in GT Silver Metallic with the polished lip.

One drawback cleaning will be more difficult.

I LOVE the new Carrera Sport wheels. They blow the "lobster forks" away, IMO!

I think the only wheel easier to clean than the CS wheel would be the skinny 5-spoker?

If you order the XD9 colored wheel option, can you get seal grey if your vehicle is guards red? Or, do the wheels have to be body colored? I have seen black wheels on red cars in the classifieds.

Geez guys this poll is SKEWED big time. The S COMES with the lobster forks, so lots of guys didn't CHOOSE them, they just went with what Porsche suggested. Guys who did not like LFs put in the extra effort and money to get other wheels.

Does this make sense? Since the results are 50-50 (Lf and CClassics) it's telling that people favor the non LF more than the LFs.

IMO, it seems likely significantly more people DIS-like the Lobster Forks enough to get something else than actually like them and decide to keep them. The others are simply not bothered by them and just go along with what's on the car. Of course "not bothered by" is a far cry from "liking" them.

Conclusion (Porsche are you listening?) the LForks are not a styling success. Is this a reasonable conclusion?

I personally never liked them
