How does Blue ray and HD DVD support 1080p and 720p at the same time?

With repect to technology my philosophy has always been to get what works for you now. Don't worry about future standards unless they are so imminent as to make your choice obsolete within a few months. No matter what you buy it will eventually become obsolete.

Case in point: 1.5 - 2 years ago I built a PC for a friend of mine who always wants the latest and greatest. AMD was releasing their 64 bit chip and so we used that. But he didn't want a conventional DVD burner because blu ray was "on the horizon". So now 2 years later he's still without a burner missing out on its utility and still no blu ray. What a waste.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for 1080p programming. There's precious little HD programmming as it is. (DVDs may be another matter). Buy now based on price, performance etc. In 5 years when 1080p is commonplace plasma sets will be $1000 and you can pass on your current HD set to some needy person.

Audio is also very important just like 1080iAddict said. If you are getting a HT system and have a price range I can help you piece together a set of speakers. 7.1 is not needed but it does give a more submersible sound. But there has to be room behind your couch to put the speakers. And whatever you do, DO NOT buy a Home Theater in a Box (HTIB) because you can build a nicer one for a simlar price.

I have a B & W with a MECHANICAL tuner. Half of you probably don't even remember those, do you?

That was a cool fight. I liked the clean uppercut that the one driver delivered. Unfortunately it probably landed on the chin part of the helmet. ...

Panasonic Plasma = Zero Complaints. Very bright with excellent black levels. Check out www.visualapex.com -- fair prices & good customer service. I've purchased 6 displays for friends and family this year. If you decide to purchase, ask for Nancy and tell her I referred you. Be sure to ask for a little xtra discount.
